Hostile Learning Environment

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Hello,

Three professors have accused my entire cohort of cheating. They have not named these students or launched an investigation, but one of the professors said they do NOT have evidence, so if this “person(s)” can just identify themselves, it would be easier on them. So for the meantime, they are punishing everyone. They have repeatedly threatened the cohort in every chance they get. We noticed that the exams start to not make sense (well, I guess that’s just nursing school in general), written in long paragraphs, that the time allotted is not enough, so we are just rushing everything.

This school was private and was acquired by a public university.

I’m really fed up with these professors using their power, their threats, and branding my cohort as “cheaters”, spreading false rumors around, that the learning environment has turned hostile and it’s making most of us depressed.

I happen to know the one of the Board of Visitors of my university, and I want to escalate, just bypass the Dean or nursing faculty with my complaint for fear of retaliation.

Has anyone experienced this before? I apologize for my rant. I’m just really upset

Undergraduate nursing yuck. Take it to the dean as an entire class if it gets out of hand. Never met such a bunch of crotchety old sag bags as my UG nursing instructors were.

conglomerate thr entire class. Go to dean first. Keep everything in writing. Sign it all. Then go up the ladder. Most UG nursing instructors are borderline MR so don’t take their threats seriously but stay as a group and fight them up the chain of command. And don’t let those rust buckets win. They are just fat and ugly And probably want to feel powerful by harassing students

Wow...just wow. Did you get kicked out of your nursing program? You sound impossibly bitter.

No it’s just the reality of how it was. Browsing these forums seems to make it sound as it’s often the norm in UG nursing. Graduate nursing school (anesthesia) was much better

I don't see how you can make any statements about "most" nursing instructors with your limited experience to schools. That goes for most of us. As for extrapolating what you read here on AN to the community at large, do understand that the vast majority of nurses and students do NOT post here on AN. This is a large website in terms of traffic, but in relation to the total number of nurses and nursing students in the world, it's a drop in the bucket.

And really, "fat and ugly"? We now need to assess our instructors based on their looks? How do you stack up? You hot and beautiful, and does that actually mean anything with regard to your knowledge and expertise?

Does beauty matters between instructors and students? I personally don't care what the person looks like as long as this instructor teaches me the right things. I just like it that I'm pretty because it works on the clients, esp. male clients to get what I want to be done. They seem to cooperate better. Hey, I understand. After all, we belong to mammalians. ?
