Hiring Process Advice!

Hello!

Had my first interview for grad practical nurse. They offered me the job on the spot (GREAT pay), gave me orientation information (vague) and quick info on what benefits they offer their nurses.

My start date couldn't be until two weeks later anyhow. They said they needed to do the background check (no probs) and reference check (no problems that I know of either?) then get back to me with which orientation day I would be on.

That was last week :/ no one has gotten back to me yet, so I am hoping to start orientation Monday! but now the HR lady is off today and tomorrow.

I am just wondering would they have called me by now? or should I hear something closer to the end of the week?

btw--state was doing a random audit the day i was interviewed. So they had a lot on their plate.

Should I have anything to worry about? like forgetting they offered me this position? I did send a thank you not also thanking for interview and job offer.

    Call the nurse manager or DON. State that you were to, from your understanding, start orientation on Monday. That the HR person is out of the office, therefore, you need to know if you are on the schedule to be oriented? If she says no, then I would tell her that you will touch base with HR on Monday for a specific start date. That will at least have you on her radar that you will be coming. And perhaps prompt her to follow up with HR as well.

    I echo what jadelpn said. Definitely call. Follow up is always good. Depending on who the agency/facility uses for background checks-It can take time. The last background check I had done took 7 working days to be completed. Good Luck! Keep us posted as to how it goes:)

    Did you have to submit a drug screen yet? Most nursing jobs won't even begin orientation until they receive the negative. I would clal the DON anyway to double check that everything has proceeded as it should.

    Definitely call and get everything confirmed. If I've learned anything in my years as a nurse, it's that things like this get screwed up all the time. Poor communication. It may be that someone will be expecting you for orientation first thing on Monday morning, but no one took the time to tell you. Now, even though, technically, it won't be your fault, it will be getting off on the wrong foot.

    It will look good if you are responsible and call to confirm and remind them that they hired you. If they aren't ready for you to start on Monday, at least they may be able to give you the game plan and you will be prepared. Good luck in your new job! Very exciting! :)
