Cool! Yeah, it is, except during rush hour traffic.. But I guess that's anywhere. :)

I'm considering moving to Jacksonville for an internship, but I found a better offer in Orlando. Which is safer in regards to hurricanes??

Hello from Orlando! :)

It seems that the entire state has been a big hurricane target for the past 2 years. I don't believe any part of the state has been left untouched. (Hurricane and tropical force winds can cover most of the state, depending on the size of the storm.)

Since I come from the Miami area, I would say that traditionally, hurricanes were more prone to landing in the southern part of the state (Orlando -> south). God knows I've endured my fair share of them. But it looks like things are changing. :stone

Orlando and Jacksonville are both great cities. Try to evaluate them based on the cost of living, wages, cultural activities, crime, etc. And if there is anything I can to do help.... let me know!

Good luck to you!

Thanks, I'll definately take that into consideration. Do you know anything about the nurse residence program at Florida Hospital?

Jacksonville is a coastal town and we have been hit several times...however like mentioned before, no where in Florida is safe. Might I mention that there is a lot of water in this town as well. We have 7 bridges here. We are also called "The River City" and some of us are surrounded by water. Personally, having been in Jacksonville since 1972, I think Orlando is safer. The pay for nurses may even be higher....PLUS there's so much more to do on your time off....But Orlando isn't far from Jax...good luck on your decision.

Jacksonville....The cost of living here is fair. Not bad. Can buy a nice house for a reasonable price. Not a lot of cultural activities compared to Orlando. Very HIGH crime rate. It does depend on where you live as anywhere...but every area of town has its own problems. We're also the largest city (land wise) in the US. It takes well over an hour to travel from one end of this town to the other end...Definitely a mish mash of people. Never a dull moment.

Hi Beachnurse~do you work in Jax? Do you know anyone who works at Mayo and it they like it?

Hello everyone.... I am also living here in Jacksonville Florida and I really like it. I work at Shands Hosp in the Renal Clinic and I really enjoy working Mon-Fri no weekends and no holidays. I relocated here from Indianapolis Indiana and I have really enjoyed the weather since I have been here...Goodluck with what ever you decide and with your move TowannaRN
