Hi there!
I just joined this forum and stopped by.. Here's a bit about me
I am 20, an Air Force spouse and mama to two beautiful littl girls. We are currently living in South Dakota, near Rapid City, having relocated from Turkey. I am getting ready to start school this summer for the first time (yay!). I'll be starting my pre-reqs with BHSU and then, for the actual nursing program, I'll be applying to USD. I am excited, but a bit nervous as we are only here for 3 1/2 years (then home to Alaska!), so a lot depends on whether I will get accepted in the fall or spring of 08/09. Crossing my fingers, I'll be trying my hardest!
Anyways, I look forward to getting to know you all more! Have a GREAT day!

Hey Anna! :welcome:
As another military spouse (army), I absolutely understand how hard it can be to plan an education! :) This a great site with lots of support. Good luck with it all!
If I were you I would figure out what classes you would need if you go to school in South Dakota as well as if you end up doing the actual nursing program in Alaska. Sometimes the prerequisites are a bit different so if you start getting tight on time you may want to get prereqs out of the way for the school in Alaska if they are different, just a thought :)
Is Alaska home for you? I've heard it is beautiful. Alaska and Hawaii were two of my husbands top choices, and Hawaii it is for now!
Take care and good luck!
Thanks for all the welcomes!
I have looked into the pre-reqs here and in Alaska.. I a REALLY hoping to get into the program here so I will be taking those pre-reqs first. There are only 9, I will taking 3 of them this summer, most likely 3 in the fall and then 3 in the spring. I have been in email touch with the nursing program here to get as much information as possible, a far as acceptance rates and what not. They have a traditional day classroom and an internet program, with labs and tests at the campus. So I am looking to get into the program in Aug of 08. If not then, I wil try again for spring semester of 09. If I don't get into either of those, then I will begin taking any of the pre-reqs I need for UAA. We will be moving back home (Anchorage) in August of 2010, so I would look at getting into the nursing program fall semester 2010, so I would be headed home a few months early to get everything in order. I have been in touch with UAA as well as USD to make sure I have as much info as I can get.
Alaska is beautiful and I miss it terribly! I can't until we move home. We tried toget stationed there coming from Turkey.. but didn't happen! But this place isn't so bad, compared to some of the other open bases for us we were glad to come here!
Planning this around his career has been a little bit of a challenge, but one that is most definitely worth it!
