HESI..... failure

hi all

i wrote an entry early last week about taking the HESI for the first time...i ended up failing it but just by a few points....I'm not too terribly upset about it because a)i didn't really know what to expect from it, therefore I really didn't have any way to tell if I was prepared or not....and I had no idea as to how to even prepare and b)i couldn't sleep a wink the night before. not one wink.

so, now i know what to expect! I'm going to be optimistic about it, but i'd be lying if i said i wasn't even a little bit nervous or scared about what happens if i don't pass it this time around....we'll see! am i the only one who hasn't passed it before, but has been so close? advice, anyone?

i'm sorry u didn't get to pass the HESI but i have a friend who took it and failed then took the nclex and passed...sorry i can't help more:imbar :imbar

At my school, we took a HESI after each section. I passed all HESI"s but the pediatric HESI. I also failed by only a few points. To prepare for these test, I found that doing tons of practice questions and reading the rationales was better than just studying the actual HESI book. It's like a game answering these questions. Once you get it figured out you'll do better. But it takes alot of practice. I find it easier to rule out the wrong answers first, and then make a decision on the answer. When I took the re-take HESI, I did tons better and didn't fail anymore the rest of nursing school.

Hi, did you take the HESI A2 admission test. If you did-what was on it that was hard or what was on it that you didn't expect.

Sandy

Sorry to hear about you not passing the HESI exam. I also took the Hesi a couple of weeks ago and I too did not pass I only missed it by a few points, and I was devastated. I studied as much as possible to prepare myself for the exam and it seems that all my studing was in vain. I am hoping to pass the next exam and I wish you the best for next time. I think my nerves got the best of me. Good Luck next time !!

I am sorry about what has happened to you:( When you took the test did you give them your email address? If you did then you could go to their website and print off a study guide for each of the questions you missed. It also seems that since you studied pretty hard you probably know the material I would focus more on test taking strategies and stuff like that...

has anyone taken the hesi for the 2nd time yet? i too failed the first time by just a few points. should i continue to study the same way. it's seems to always be between 2 answers...someone said that kaplan has good strategies.

please help!:o

I am glad you have a chance to retake. My school only gives you one chance to pass. We have a HESI every level. Level 1-750, level 2 -800, level 3 - 850 and level 4- 900. If you don't pass the HESI the first time you are out- no makeups.

Goodness! Glad ours give us another chance! Two days ago, I made a 845 out of needing at least an 850. Some made less than 500 and some above 1100. 5 points away was just devastating! I've cried off an on. Now I'm scared of my final exam because it's over the past 2 semesters. We get another chance to take the exam, but if we don't pass the 2nd one, we have to take a summer class. That will put a big damper on my externship at the hospital.

If anyone has taken the 2nd one, please let me know if it's the same exact test. I've heard rumour at school that the past 5 times given, it has been the exact same test. That would be too cool because I remember 96 test questions from this one. There were only 110 questions.

I just recently took my exit Hesi...thankfully I passed it...but some of the people in my class that had to retake it...all said it was a different test than the first time. One said her's was much much easier, and another said it was more difficult!! I know that is not helpfull, but if you got the printout of your "weak" areas I would work on them...take as many practice questions as you can, and prepare for a whole new test!! Good Luck

Hi. I too go to school in TX. I have one more try at the HESI, then I'm out if I don't pass. How did your friend sit for the NCLEX if she failed the HESI. I'm interested to learn if there's a way around it. I scored an 845 and need an 850. Every question on the second test was different than the first test.

NOt every school requires that you pass HESI in order to graduate. It is not needed to take boards. Like at my school we have to take it and pass, to get credit for it, we have to retake it at least once, but they will not hold up our graduation or transcripts....I think that will change in the near future to that you have to pass to grad. But it is not required now.
