Which sections do you have to take? The Reading and Math only, or all of the sections, including Chemistry, Biology & A&P?
I have to take all except the chem and the ap...thank goodness. I've heard that those are the hardest parts!
Definitely get the study guide. There are some weirdities on the HESI, like all those darn Roman Numerals! And most of the generic study guides have math that is more advanced than you need for the HESI.
For the biology portion, in addition to the study guide, I used the SparkNotes site a lot:
http://www.sparknotes.com/biology/
In my experience, the first 4 sections on that page: cell structure, cellular respiration, cellular reproduction and molecular biology were the most important for studying for the HESI.
Just remember: you're looking for BIG PICTURE concepts. Overviews. For example, don't stress about knowing everything that happens in every step of the citric acid cycle! Just know the main events and where they happen in the cell.
You *may* have a question or two about plants or fungi or protista, but it definitely will not be the bulk of the biology portion. You can bet your boots you'll see questions on organelles! :)
For the reading, remember not to read TOO much into any question and just take your time. However, if you are timed on that section, keep an eye on how much time you have left versus how many questions you have left.
I found the vocabulary and grammar incredibly easy -- exactly like the study guide.
If anyone is taking the Chem portion, I'll be happy to answer general questions about that. I don't remember specific questions (and we're not permitted to post them, anyway), but I can give you some general direction for your studying.
Good luck!!
I have to take all but Chem & Bio doesn't count toward acceptance. Only AP as the science.
Took my HESI today... it was soooo easy. :yeah:Took me 2 1/2 hours to do all portions on the test. Very high scores I am so excited. Basic basic stuff. I suggest studying a bit on med term but it wasn't anything totally over the top. Basic math, fractions, ratios, percents type of things
Yay! Good job! Any other advice for me? I have been stressing over the test big time. I am mostly worried about the vocabulary, because I've heard from a few people that it's kind of hard, and the biology...because I haven't taken bio for a few years. I'm also kind of stressing out about the math....the conversions. I'm the type of person who reads way to much into things so I may be overreacting.:imbar
