Here's a genious idea...💡

Why can't the state require staffing according to aquity? Everyone gets accessed, whatever level they are at should be accounted into staffing. I work at 2 facilities. One of them, an AL, is nothing but a glorified nursing home. They won't hire more help when the census increases because "we are staffed better than any AL out there". That may be true in the traditional sense but our aquity level is not that of the standard AL! Don't these people realize the more help you have, the less falls you have, the less people that need to be hospitalized therefore census stays up??? Not rocket science! So annoyed...

The only state with staffing mandates is California at this time.

Assisted living facilities have no incentive to beef up the staffing levels because it costs money. Since state Medicaid reimburses at the average rate of $100/day per resident, where is the money going to come from?

The state pays for most assisted living residents' stays via Medicaid, so of course the state is not going to mandate a staffing grid according to acuity.

PA Medicaid does not pay for assisted living facility care; pays only for group home care.

They don't accept Medicaid at this AL...mostly private pays. Private pay=BIG $$$, higher level of care=BIG $$$ so yeah, I'm pretty sure they can afford more stafff. Especially since we are a higher aquity AL. The state's regulations for AL differ greatly from SNF even though the aquity level can be exactly the same...the state needs to mandate similar regulations according to aquity.
