HELP

Hello,

My daughter desperately wants to go to nursing school, but has a mortgage and she is a single mom. Does anyone know of any resources for her to be able to do this?? She is tired of struggling to make ends meet.

You would get more answers -- and more USEFUL answers -- if you made an effort to make your header more descriptive. Something like "Resources for Single Mom to Pay For School?" Or "How To Pay For Education."

Are YOU able to help your daughter pay for school? Are you able to help out by babysitting while she goes to school or to work? Can you move in with her and help with expenses or can she and her kids move in with her? Can her other parent help? Where have you (and she) looked for resources?

Your daughter needs to look at her budget and get financial advice. If she has equity in her home, maybe she should sell the home to finance school, if she really can't afford it.

In any case, she is an adult and needs to contact local resources. The financial aide office probably is a good pace to start.

My best friend was a single mother with a mortgage when we attended nursing school together. She worked weekend double shifts in Texas and crossed state lines to attend school 220 miles away in Oklahoma every week.

Her emotional support system consisted of me, her mother, and her then-boyfriend. Her ex-husband did not consistently pay child support, so she was the main source of financial support for her son.

To be honest, not much exists as far as formal resources for nontraditional aspiring nursing students who wish to return to school. Your daughter's resources will need to be informal in nature (e.g., you, friends, the children's father).

Good luck to your daughter!
