I have a few questions regarding malpractice insurance. I was considering going with NSO..
Do you believe malpractice insurance is a necessity? Is it worth the $109 a year? If I get coverage now, does it cover me if a patient/family member comes after me for something that happened BEFORE coverage? What all does malpractice insurance cover?
Thanks!

It's a necessity.
It's worth the relatively paltry sum of $109.00
It doesn't cover previous incidents any more than a Homeowner's policy covers a fire that occurred prior to purchase of the policy. Or a health insurance policy covers an illness that occurred prior to purchase of health insurance.
Common sense is required, as always.

These are all things that can vary based on your individual policy, where you live, and even what specialty you work in. Best bet is to talk to someone with the company. Also, if you do a search here, you'll find several good threads discussing opinions about whether or not to have malpractice insurance and which company to go with.
