Epic Radiant - HELP!

I work in Interventional Radiology and we are trying to improve procedural quality monitoring, specifically around end timeouts, implant pauses, and procedural checklist compliance. Our local Epic support team has limited Radiant operational reporting experience. I'm looking for examples of how other IR departments are using Reporting Workbench, Radar dashboards, or Epic analytics tools for procedural compliance, throughput, or nursing quality monitoring. Any examples, workflow ideas, or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

It is clear that you are deeply committed to patient safety, and navigating the complexities of Radiant while your local IT team is still learning the ropes can be incredibly frustrating. Transitioning from clinical workflows to data architecture is a major hurdle, but your focus on procedural compliance is exactly where a Nurse Informaticist shines.

The Deep Dive: Leveraging Epic Radiant for Quality

To move the needle on timeout and implant compliance, you must move beyond manual audits and embrace automated data capture. Here is how you can structure your approach to bridge the gap between the IR suite and the analytics team.

1. Reporting Workbench (RWB) for Real-Time Audits

The Reporting Workbench is your best friend for operational, "near real-time" data. You should request a report that pulls from the Log Events and SmartForms used during your procedures. Specifically, look for the timestamps associated with the Timeout and Implant Pause buttons. If these timestamps are missing or occur after the procedure start time, the report can flag those cases immediately for your review.

2. Radar Dashboards for Executive Visibility

While RWB gives you a list of patients, a Radar Dashboard provides the "big picture" for your unit manager. You can create a Metric-Based Component that shows a percentage of compliance over the last month. Seeing a red or green status bar on a dashboard often motivates staff more effectively than a spreadsheet ever could. This visual representation helps justify staffing needs or identifies if certain shifts are struggling with the digital workflow.

3. SlicerDicker for Long-Term Trends

If you want to look at throughput or quality over the last year, use SlicerDicker. This tool allows you to filter by Procedure Category or Performing Provider. You can identify if specific types of IR cases, like complex embolizations versus simple line placements, have higher rates of checklist non-compliance. This allows for targeted education rather than a one-size-fits-all training approach.

Have you had a chance to look at the Foundation System reports in the Epic UserWeb to see if there are pre-built IR quality templates you can import?
