You could try the DON directly instead of going through your manager. I guess I would start there.

I had a similar situation when I started my current job. It's a long hiring process here, and by the time I actually got through all the screens and was ready to start orienting, my NM had quit her job for another job in the facility. I couldn't get the nurse recruiter to call me back. Finally, I called the floor I was going to be working on, and I asked for my NMs extension (well, now it was an extension in another department) -- fortunately, she got back to me right away, told me she was no longer the manager there, and got me to her former supervisor (the service line chief) who was actually setting up my orientation (since there was no new NM hired yet.) It all worked out. If you need the $$$, be proactive about it and make some calls, otherwise the paperwork could be sitting on a desk somewhere.

I would go there and talk to them instead of waiting around for a phone call.

Can you contact the HR dept and inquire? They might be able to put a little pressure on the manager/ dept to get the orientation lined up. They want to fill those positions.

Anyone switching jobs needs to get an offer letter from the new employer with a description of responsibilities, pay rate, and start date before they leave the old job.
