Do you have to work as a LPN for one year before going to school for your RN's?

It all depends on the school. There was one community college around here that used to require 6 months but dropped it. My personal opinion is that its ridiculous. We as LPN students already had an additional semester plus whatever bridge program they make us take imo they should make the RN students take a class to catch up with us, lol. FWIW all the LPNs that joined the RN class I'm in do great.

:lol2:I have not heard of a school requiering a one year Lpn stipulation for RN school. You will have to have your basics of general education and then there is the application process. Get started as soon as you can. Don't wait.

Some schools in my area require 1000 or more hours of experience as an LPN. The one I applied to gives points toward admission for the nature and length of experience. Others don't care so long as you're licensed. Some even allow GPNs/almost finished SPNs to apply. It would definitely be worth checking into programs that you're interested in.

I'm not sure of the local colleges I have not really looked into their programs. I plan on doing ISU's LVN to BSN program and I do think they require having your license one year but I'm not positive of that.

I'm in an LPN to RN program and part of the application process required proof from your employer of having worked 1040 hours as an LPN (prior to submitting application). They also expect that you're still working as an LPN while you're in the program. Not an easy task I tell you!
