help!!!!

Hello everyone,

Just a little bit of information about me. I am a biological science major, Bachelor's in biology to be exact. I have enough classes to have a minor in chemistry and a minor in psych but of course you can't have two minors. So anyways my issue is that i have a very very very low undergraduate gpa. basically the low 2's. YEH i know!!! I've been looking into some options. I see that LPN programs are very helpful. What i want to know is that how important or beneficial would it be for me to get an LPN cert and then apply to RN school? Also i also read online, that private ASN or BSN schools are a easy way in but expensive. Is this true? Im not worried about money. I just need to get in. I want to stay around Ga,SC,NC,KN,TN,FLA,ALA But I will consider anything. Does anyone know of any LPN/BSN/ASN school prefferably accelerated that don't have such a harsh GPA requirement. Private would be fine for me. I heard chamberlain is one of them. I just need something that doesn't have a harsh GPA requirement. Also Does anyone know of any LPN schools that don't have a harsh GPA requirement I am really worried as to what my next step would be. LPN, accelerated BSN, Doing pre-reqs over... etc...:bluecry1:anyone have any advice? I'm all ears. Thank You.

I think probably the best idea would be to find a couple of schools that you are interested in, and then speak directly with their admissions staff to see where you stand.

All of the nursing schools that I know of require at least a 2.5 college GPA. I am not sure how solid they are on this, or if they ever make exceptions. If this is the case around you as well, then perhaps retaking some classes to raise your GPA would be the way to go.

Also, one of the community colleges here only goes on the GPA of the 8 pre-req classes. If there is a school with similar admissions criteria near you, then you could take those 8 classes and really focus on getting A's in everything to show that you are now committed and dedicated to schoolwork and getting good grades.

Good luck!

Since you have a BS with a potential minor in chemistry I would suggest (re) taking the science prereqs that are specific to nursing. They should come relatively easy for you considering your academic background. The stock sciences required by most nursing programs are:

Inorganic chemistry - 1 class

Organic chemistry - 1 class but this is usually not required for ADN only BSN

A&P 1- 1 class

A&P 2- 1 class (these are sequential)

Microbiology- 1 class

Most schools that I know of (I live in the western US) just look at the prereq gpa when computing admission scores. However as mentioned above it would be a good idea to contact some schools in your area and see what they recommend.

It has been my understanding for sometime now, that pretty much all (LPN, RN, BSN, MSN) nursing programs are extremely competitive. I think you would be hard pressed to find a school that doesn't care about the gpa of the applicant. I have read over the admission info of many different schools and I have found that most state that the gpa of the applicant is (to some extent) an indicator of the applicant's ability to succeed in their program.

Good luck whatever route you choose to take!

Don't rule out private schools based on cost. They are easy to get into (mine has no waiting list, unlike the community colleges). You might even find them to be cheaper. I don't have to pay a dime in tuition since it's a hospital run program.

hello,

so everyone suggests that i should tetake pre-reqs instead of going to LPN school and then RN? Thank You....
