hi everyone, i posted a few days ago about how i have a lot of anxiety about my essay and its just getting worse!
to give you a little background, i go to a community college and several counselors ill advised me and told me i wouldnt be transferring for a few yrs at least. i believed them and figured i might as well get a head start by going to the universities myself and seeing if im on a good track. the admission people at both universities told me that i could apply for fall 2010 and the deadline is jan 15. suddenly, everything was happening extremely quickly and now i've been stuck with less than a month to do EVERYTHING! i really don't like my essay and i feel extremely down about it. would anyone be willing to give me some constructive criticism about my essay? i feel like the whole direction of it might be going in the wrong way, and thats why i feel unmotivated to work on it. its a pretty rough draft (grammer/syntax wise) but like i said, if its going in the wrong direction i dont want to spend a bunch of time perfecting it. im just feeling extremely anxious about this whole thing!!!

I totally understand your anxiety rayhay, I worried about my essay for weeks - still do for that matter. I'll be worried until I get that acceptance letter!! If you email me a copy, I will critique it for you.
I had a non-fiction paper I did in English class published in a magazine. I also had a journalist in my Anthro class find my critique of his paper spot on and appreciated my comments so much, he wrote me a nice long email thanking me. He told me I should be an editor and cc'd my prof, didn't get any extra credit for it though - lol. Just some background so you don't think I'm a nutcase and that I know how to string some sentences together!

I would be happy to review it also for you. I am going through a similar slump. I am applying for a LVN-RN bridge and I thought I would be ready for 2 years at least and now it looks as though I could get in for fall. The hardest question is why do you want to be a nurse bc I already am...
WOW!!! thank you both so much! i feel better already
im new to this (AMAZING!!) forum, so sorry if this question has an incredibly obvious answer, but is there a place that lists your emails? or a way to direct message my essay to you?
thank you again!!!

Hi, i am not yet in Nursing school but i am pretty good with essays...if you want me to help you could just send me a private message...i hope this helps
Below our names you will see 'Registered User' and a bunch of icons. The email icon is the letter looking one in the middle. You can cut and paste it there, or for me, you can send me a message with your email and I will send you my email address directly (we can't post them on the forum). Then you can attach a file using regular email, if that works better for you.
I understand the stress, just be sure to be organized and you can make that deadline! :)
And, if you send it to all of us, you can get a wide variety of responses. Perhaps one may be fit you better than another. Choices are always good. :) I love allnurses too, there are such a great bunch of people here who have been where you and are so helpful. I love this place!!
hmmm...for some reason i dont see that icon...sanddollar, under your name it says: "senior member" then it has 3 icons: i in a circle- view public profile, plus in a circle- add to contacts, magnifying glass-search...
is it possibly b/c im a new user?
thanks again for all the help.
im @ my cousins house and getting major negative feedback ):
Maybe it is because your new. I do know you need 15 posts to send a PM, maybe its the same for email too. Try and post it on my profile as a message to me, I will delete it if it works. And if we can't do it until the 15, don't stress... you only have a few more posts to go and then it will be a mute point. Plenty of time for your deadline. :)
Negative feedback about your essay? Is it about the form or the content? If its format, don't worry about it, you know yourself its only a first draft. As for content, do you value their opinion, are they nurses or nursing students? I find that unless someone is behind you 100% they tend to be negative for some reason, and if they aren't nurses themselves, they don't really have the insight into what its all about.
i agree with you about the 100% thing.
they are not nurses, but excellent writers and actually, after talking to them i've decided to change my essay and now i feel much more confident about it even though i havent started officially writing the new one!
my old essay was exteremely typical, which is horrible for an admissions essay. AND the way i wrote it didn't answer both prompts for both schools, which is probably why i was so hesitant about it.
i'm really excited for my new essay now!! if you dont mind, i'll work on it this weekend and hopefully send it to you by sun. i think its going to be much better, and it will stand out in a different way:D
btw thanks for the help!! sand dollar and everyone!!! i feel so confident now, this website is like having a team of nurses in my home helping me make the right choices!!
Good for you rayhay! Glad to hear you feel better about it. I'll be here whenever you want a fresh pair of eyes. :)
thank you!!
