Hi, I Am Chibuzor By Name. Actually I Have Joined This Forum In Order To Inquire From More Experience Nurses. I Am Intending To Major In Nursing But I Have Little Or No Knowlege Of What It Take But Am Determined Because This Is What I Have Always Wished For. I Am A Graduate And Am Seeking To Seat For The Cgfns Program. I Majored In History In My Undergraduate Program, I Would Like Someone To Please Direct Me On The Best Way To Get Around My Dreams. I Have Correctly Applied For The Cgfns Program / Exams But Without Any Degree On Nursing? Is That Ok Or Is There A Better Way To Go About It. I Am Considering Enrolling For A Degree Program But That Is If I Do Not Have A Better Alternative, Thank You And God Bless As You Reply

I am a little confused. Have you graduated from Nursing School? In order to qualify for the CGFNS Program you have to have graduated from Nursing School. This is a program to get you qualifed for Licensure in the US, not for schooling. After you graduate, you can apply to get licensed in the US, but not before that.

Are you wanting an RN license for the U.S.?
If you are you will still need to meet the requirements of the Boards even if you have passed the CGNFS exam.
My first wife was a trained nurse in Germany and took the CGNFS exam in Georgia but was short credits in Psych and had to take the class before Alabama would allow her to sit for the NCLEX.
I hope this helps.
Good luck

Not to be dumb here but what does CGNFS stand for? Something about competency for nurses from foreign schools, I guess.
Chibuzor, I don't know how to help you but it looks like others here do. I will be cheering you on and I believe you will achieve your dreams, as you sound determined. God bless you, too.

Trudy, your basicly right...it is a two part test, half english competency and the other nursing.
I believe the acronym breaks down to
Certification graduate nurses foreign schools...or something like that LOL!

only a small handful of states require the cgfns exam. check out the international forum especially the sticker titled primer to working in the us. have you decided on which state you want to live?
CGFNS offer a few different services, mainly they are they to make sure that foreing trained nurses transcripts meet US requirements and that the training is very similar to the US. For immigration the foreign trained nurse must be a RN unless they obtain their visa though another legal route ie marriage
If you are not a RN now I think you will find it hard to sit the exam as you will not meet requirements. If you are looking at training in the US then be prepared to pay lots of money as you will be classed as an international student.
hi everyone. thanks for all your replies but actually what l want to find out is if it is possbile to go ahead with writing the CGFNS Exams without actually having a degree in nursing as a profession. what l studied in college was a B.A in history and thats all without any experience in nursing. So my question again is where do l go from here, do l go on with writing the CGFNS Exams or do l apply for a degree in nursing and if that is the case please recommend a good school in the eastern region for me who do not have strict policies for adminsion for fall or spring adminsion, thank you all; you have all been a life-saver.

I doubt that you can sit the CGFNS exam if you do not have any nursing qualifications.
hi, thanks for your respondes, but the truth is l do not have a degree in nursing but rather a degree in history and was told that the Exam was open for every one as long as you have a degree. So my question is: do l go ahead and write thw CGFNS Exams or should l enroll for a degree program in nursing and if that is the case can you help by suggesting any graduate in the eastern region of united states where l can obtain a degree in nursing. please while suggesting l am looking for schools that do not have strict policies for adminsion.
hi thanks for your reply. l really do not have a degree in nursing but rather a degree in history. My question is is it ok going ahead to write the CGFNS Exam or should l enroll into a another graduate school to obtain a degree in nursing and if that is the case please kindly suggest a school for me in the eastern region of the United State have have no or little strict policies for adminsion, as in not so competetive. thank you and God bless you
My understanding is the exam is for foreign nurses so if you haven't got nursing degree then you can't sit it. Because you are classed as an international student the fees will be very expensive and you will have to apply for a student visa and show that you can support yourself whilst doing the course as working whilst on F1 student visa is very strict and restricted on hours especially in the 1st year
