Hello everyone, I just recently took the TEAS & Passed with an 85. I’m now on my last pre-requisites before applying to nursing school in January. So the class is online microbiology and I’m struggling with the material. I tried emailing my Professor and no responses. In her PowerPoints theirs between 120-160 slides per each chapter. I don’t know where to begin studying. Does anyone have any good microbiology sites/video I can watch to help me understand. I really need an A in this course. Please help!!

Is there a lab w/ this course? Most nursing programs require a lab component so you should make sure this course will count toward the program, or programs, you are planning on applying to.
I would strongly suggest taking Micro in person. There's a reason for this and it's usually because the teacher is there to guide you through the 120 slides so you can ask questions and focus on what you need to focus on. Just an opinion

I’m taking it at an accredited university I have no worries about that. Theirs an online lab and we have to do virtual labs etc..
Well it’s kind of late for that lol I have to take it online as that was my only option. This is my last class and I’m applying to my nursing program. And It’s still responsibility of the teacher to reply to emails even if it’s an online class because I am paying around 1,000 for this course.

I am taking it online this semester, too. For the last exam I used Picmonic some and also YouTube videos. The YouTube videos helped a lot. I also made quizlet flash cards. My professor has a crossword puzzle that he has is fill out for bonus and some of the questions on the test come from the puzzle. Have you looked to see if anyone has made any quizlet sets for your class, even a past semester?

I Found one quizlet that’s been kind of helpful I’ve been using that and I’ve also started making my own color coded study guide so that’s been helping me a lot. Can you tell which YouTube videos you used? I couldn’t find any good ones when I searched them up. And I just downloaded picmonic rn thank you!!!
You are welcome! Crash Course was great:
I also watched a few from this guy:
His older stuff is a little harder to follow. Khan Academy has some videos, too.

This is the best flashcard program out there - way better than Quizlet. Also super good if you have cumulative finals, as it will used spaced repetition with graduating intervals to keep material fresh all semester.

I took micro as a hybrid class (lab in person twice a week, only six lectures in person, the rest online) and we were fortunate to have a really good textbook--
Microbiology: A Systems Approach (5th Edition)
Cowan and Smith (McGraw Hill)
Honestly, just reading the textbook over and over was plenty for me to make an A. McGraw Hill's online study tools were awesome, too. I would caution you that even though your school is accredited, my nursing program has an explicit "no-online lab" policy for micro and A&P I and II that they make no exceptions for. I bet several others have a similar requirement.

I used McGraw hill for A&P 1 and 2 and made As. But my professor for micro only teaches from her PowerPoint so I use that mainly for my exams. I do use the book if im having trouble understanding a certain topic. I took my first exam today and made an A I’m so happy loll. And btw my school allows us to take all classes either online or on campus it’s the students choice!

I am surprised there is no lab requirement. I got an A in micro but I lived with my nose in the book,so fascinating. You have to know and recognize the bugs and creatures, you might get your self a tutor to help you.
Good luck.

It does have a lab portion. I’ve been doing well in my classes. I found that doing index cards helped out a lot. Also joined a fb group with students in Micro which also helped. Thx for the response
