HELP! LVN from TX looking to move to CO

Published

Hi! :D

I just graduated from nursing school and I already took my NLCEX and got my license. I am currently looking for a job here in TX to save money to move to CO. I am looking to move to the Littleton/Lakewood area. I just have some questions, and maybe you guys can help me.

1) Are there many jobs for LVNs/LPNs? I don't mind working in any facility

2) Where are the best places to apply for someone out of state?

3) How much money would be a safe amount to move out there with? ( I was looking to save up at least 5-7000 to sort of have as a safety net if I can't find a job right away)

4) Does it help if I'm bi-lingual?

5) How soon should I apply for endorsement in CO? I know Tx and Co are compact states, but should I start applying now, or closer to when I move?

Any help you guys can give, and any extra info and advice would be really helpful

Thanks in advance!:bowingpur:bow:

Why do you want to move to Colorado? Why not stay in Texas?

I am sick of living in Texas, Right now I live in El Paso, which is my hometown, but I've lived in Austin and Houston, and though I liked Austin its changed so much I wouldn't want to live there again. I'm looking for something new and more scenic. We have about two different weather types here, sunny and windy. I want something new and cold

You can work here in CO with your TX license for 30 days. Call the BON and ask when you should apply for endorsement. It took me about a month to transfer my license from CA to CO, and I was a new grad, too. I started the endorsement process when I moved out here.

it is good that you are willing to be flexible. I don't think there are as many jobs to choose from in CO right now as there were a couple years ago - it would probably be a good idea to get something lined up BEFORE making the move. CO has a pretty limited scope of practice for LPN's. You don't see many (if any) in the hospitals. LTC's are the biggest employer and the jails/prisions also hire a good number. I knew a LPN that worked in a prision in Canon City and he made as much as I did as a RN in FC. Sava Senior Care (google them_ is a nursing home chain that has many facilities all over CO - i can't remember what their website is but I know they have job postings.
