Help! Input on retaking a class or not??

Hi nurses.

I am a RN with a BSN. Actually I have 2 bachelor degrees. My 1st in Exericse & Sports Science. I'm 27 years old. Been an RN for 3 years (3 years in Aug). Worked on a Medical/Tele floor and now just got hired into an ICU (MICU/SICU). Goal is to be a CRNA. I took A&P 2 before A&P1, took A&P2 as undergrad when I was 18 years old as a freshmen with the mind set of "not caring" like many other 18 year olds. Anyways I got an 2.0. took A&P 1 the next year and got a 3.0. My question is, a 2.0 is not good, so should I retake A&P2 so it would look better when I apply to CRNA schools?

I guess it would depend on if you have competitive BSN GPA. You could re-take A&P and do much better, I am sure when they look at your transcripts they will see it was almost 10 years ago and know that you have made up for it. I would recommend taking a graduate science or master's level nursing course, that is always a plus on your application. Hope this helps, good luck!

For some programs a graduate nursing course might be helpful, and other programs will care less. Retaking A&P will help you both in admissions and once you are in the program. Graduate pathophysiology is not the same as A&P, you need that basic understanding to proceed.

They'll look more at your overall GPA for the most part. As long as you're grades in your other classes and your overall GPA is good you should be fine. One thing that would help a great deal is to get your CCRN after you've worked in ICU. Most schools I know of consider that a big plus when they look at applicants

I'm going to take a graduate level Pathophysiology and Pharmacology classess. Possibly Biochem or Organic chem too.

well if you are going to take those classes then i guess you don't need to take over A&P from undergrad, however, before you take those classes make sure that you are really ready to get an A,... B at worst because once you dont do well in a graduate course it is very hard to come back from that. Its like telling the board members that your only responsibility was one class and work but yet you still couldn't excel. Since your own A&P, pathophys, and pharm classes were a while ago then i suggest brushing up on those classes first on your own and see where you stand. You can do a search on barnes and nobles for practice books with questions in pharm or pathophys where you can test yourself and see how easily you breeze through the concepts.
