Help for initial license from MBON

Published

Hi all,

I am a new graduate in state of MD. I just got my nursing license in early Feb and found out that my license expires in October of this year, which is my birth month. But on the paper that I got from MBON , it says "on January 1, 2013, the Board of Nursing began to phase in biennial (every two years) renewal of licenses". So I went to the MBON today and talked to the lady at the front desk. She said there is nothing wrong with my license and the expiration date is correct as it is. I didn't want to argue with her more because her attitude was very rude. I still don't understand why my license expires so early but not others?? Does anyone know about this? I am really confused and trying to contact the MBON by phone and they never pick up....

I think it has something to do with the month or year you were born. One of my classmates expires this year, most expire next year, and only one that I have noticed expires in two years.

I got mine in June and it expired that October. Gotta love Maryland. Basically, licenses cannot expire in less than 90 days or more than 2 years. Since 2 years from now is before October, they take advantage of that odd birth year thing and make you expire this year. It's ridiculous. And expensive.

It is so ridiculous. I just got an email back from MBON. In the email, it basically says that if my birth year is odd and my birth month is October, it expires this year on 28th of October. When I get to renew my license in October, it will be good for 2 years. Thank you Maryland Board of Nursing for such ridiculous rules.

Thanks, O'Malley!
