HELP! 2.5 hour interview! AHHHHH!

I seriously doubt you would have lasted 30 minutes if they weren't interested! I'm sure you asked probing questions that made them aware that you are really investing yourself in picking the right "fit" for you, and they, of course, are looking for a good fit for them.

Which are you leaning towards? Do you have any personal experience with either one that makes you predisposed to desire to work on one vs the other?

well, i've never worked neuro and don't really know that much about it. i worked tele for a few months. i like tele, it's crazy, fast and i understand it. on tele i saw a lot of CVAs, dementia, and a few head bleeds. however, a whole 'neuro-tele' floor sounds a little nuts. i heard that a large portion on this floor are restrained--soft restraints.

wouldn't that be a little tiresome??

anyway, i'm hoping for the cardiac tele floor. the neuro-tele floor made an offer on the spot.... so, i guess it's good that i have at least one sure bet.

they asked me soooo many questions, but i slammed them with questions too.

i feel like 2 out of the 3 managers liked me...the 3rd was slow-to-warm, but maybe it's just her interview face.

i hate waiting....

so, i just finished a 2 and a half hour interview at a banner hospital today. they asked me all sorts of questions (there were THREE different clinical managers in a smalllll office!!).

anyway, the gave me a tour, introduced me to everyone, etc. i'd make $25 there versus $23 at the other place i interviewed.

so, here's the thing: both places seem good. the one today was telemetry. the one that i was already offered was telemetry with neuro patients--dementia/bleeds/cvas.

both seem to provide good orientation, benefits are comparable.

would you choose the cardio-tele job or the neuro-tele job?

(i'm a new-ish nurse).

A 2.5 hour interview is a GREAT sign. It means they are truly interested in you. It also means they really want to be sure you are the right candidate and the right fit for their small office. I would take that as a compliment. If it were me, I'd go with the cardio-tele job. The neuro one you are always doing q2 neuro checks and patients tend to be in "worse" shape vs. cardio patients. But it all depends on how you feel about each place and the support system. How many new grads are there in each place? What has the turnover been like? What type of training have the mentors/preceptors gone through? Can you talk to some other new nurses on the floor to get a feel of the place? Would they let you shadow for a few hours at each?

Both places will be very stressful, especially for new grads. Tele floors have critically ill patients, some may code on you, and there are many demands made on your time. Take it in stride and know you are learning. It will take you at least 6 months to a year to feel somewhat comfortable in that position. Good luck.

I'd definately go for cardiac tele! I had my last semester of clinical on a cardiac tele floor and I loved it:)

:uhoh3:Holy crap! That's a LONG interview! I had 40 minutes (not expecting to even get an interview that day!) and I thought that was a lot!

i work for banner health i just stared this week but i interviewed for them like a month ago before i took my nclex, i interviewed for the long term care facility and the medical unit. i got offerd the medical unit on the spot and didnt hear much from the long term care, and others i tired to interview just didnt call me back such as PACU, RADIOLOGY. but its cool but i believe that the interview was great, mines was long also. they might have liked you as person. did you guys carry on a lot of converstaions? they was just trying to feel you out and make sure u wasnt fake. as long you was yourself it should be fine. you pay is ok too so take it. each unit differ though cause one unit told me i would get like 13 something base pay for the 12 weeks another unit told me i will get 22 base pay for the 12 weeks. so pay differs but they both offered me 26.11 after 12 orientation. i like banner health it reminds me of my last hospital i worked for when i was at home in MD, its highly technical and benefits are great, and staff are nice, and they up to date on their evidenced based practice. i work in the banner faclity in alaska.
