Help !!!! Experienced RN Moving to New Jersey…

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Hello all,

I am considering moving to New Jersey from Florida in the next few months. My specialty is in NICU and Psych. Any good hospitals out there? Also how is the cost of living ? I will be renting alone and want somewhere nice, pest free, and safe.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I'm from NJ but am not familiar with the hospitals because I became a nurse after moving out of state.

However I wanted to reply to advise you to apply for reciprocity asap. The process takes about 4 months. You'll need a license number to apply to most jobs. The NJ BON is not exactly efficient.

You could get your PA reciprocity instead (takes 2 weeks) and work in Philly while living across the river and still have a reasonable commute. Philly has some excellent hospitals (Children's Hosp of Phila or St Christopher for NICU) and a lot of options. It's a busy city, but you don't have to live there.

Property taxes are pretty high in NJ but if you're getting an apartment I guess that won't be a problem. Nurses are paid well there. There are a lot of nice areas (Lawrence Twp, Cinnaminson, Monmouth/Ocean counties...north Jersey has beautiful areas but I've only driven through) but just stay away from the cities of course (Camden, Newark, Trenton) if you're looking for safe. Again I don't know the hospitals really, but I know Capital Health, Hopewell and Robert Wood Johnson, Hamilton are pretty well respected from my old area.

Thank you blue dawn RN for lots of information . :-)

What part of NJ are you moving to? What county?

I am looking to move to North Jersey. I have an interest in St. Josephs Hospital . My specialty is NICU
