HELP....Dr wants to perform repeat C-section 5 days before due date!!!!

My first son was born after 22 hours of labor. I was induced at 41 weeks, membranes were ruptured by the dr and I quickly requested an epidural, leaving me bound to the bed with an IV and numb legs. At 9.5 centimeters, the dr stated I needed a C-section because of late decels and a little bit of cervix that would dilate. NO position changes recommended, just "you need section". Even with the countless lady partsl exams, it wasnt until during the surgery they realized he was "sunny side up".....sigh....

It wasnt until I went to nursing school that I learned soooooo much more could have been done for me to prevent a C-section. Now that I am pregnant with my seecond, I refuse to go through something like that again! Yet, it looks like this is what the dr's want for me.

The first dr I went to stated he does repeat C-sections. I then switched drs at around 6 months and shared my concerns and desire for a VBAC with my new dr. Of course in the beginning, everything if soooo great with a new dr. "Oh yes, you can have a VBAC".... blah blah blah! Now at 36 weeks, it's "your baby is in an oblique position with her hand on her head so I want to schedule you for a C-Section 5 days before your due date" WTH!!!!!!!!!!

Now, I understand the risk of a prolapsed cord and all if my water breaks. But IM NOT IN LABOR YET!! A C-section would prolong my recovery time, something I cannot afford. I just got my first job as an RN 3 weeks ago and would like to keep my job!!!

I was thinking about going to a CNM to help with different positions to help get her into the pelvis correctly. I believe she is in the posterior position as well.

What do you all recommend?? I need your help please!!! I want a safe and successful delivery for my little girl.

Just because they schedule you NOW (at least 3 weeks out) doesn't mean that the baby's position won't change, or that you won't go into labor spontaneously in the meantime. If you do, then tell them you want to attempt a VBAC and stand by that decision. I've seen babies born with their hand over their head (usually girls and the docs always say they are reaching for the credit cards.) Good luck.

I suggest you go to a midwife. Seriously. They are more body friendly and work with you rather than shoving procedures down your throat.

I posted twice, sorry, but the post below is better.

Per the terms of service, we really can't give out medical advice. That being said, this has happened many, many times over my career as a CNA and doula. I've found docs will say, "Yeah! You're prime candidate for a section!" only to give some bogus reason why it can't be done.

That's probably all I can say w/o getting into trouble per the TOS. If you'd like to discuss this further, please feel free to PM me. Keep in mind that I'm not a nurse, but I do have 13+ years as a doula under my belt. I promise the mods that I won't give medical advice. Just general information. :)
