hi everyone,
I am new here and very glad to say hi. I am a first year nursing student and need your help. I am having very bad experinces with my clinical partners. They don't maintain personal hygiene. can someone help me how to approach this problem? I cannot take their breath and body odors. Isn't it student's responsibility to maintain hygeine in clinical area? thankyou in advance.

Well what kind of issues? Is this a no shower in a week issue, or no shower since the previous night issue?
I would think the clinical instructors would notice this as well if it is an actual problem, and do some kind of 'reminder' as not to embarass certain students but I can not believe that this would happen with all of your clinical partners???
If it is TRULY a problem, then you should talk to an instructor and ask that it be reviewed with everyone.

First, welcome to allnurses :)
Bless your heart, I've soooo been in your shoes..hehe
At one time I thought another student must have been wearing her son's dirty Tshirts. They just had that boyish locker room aroma, if you know what I mean. Until the first morning of clinical with her Somehow I don't think her son had been wearing her uniform, and she didn't even have the excuse of having worked in it all day.
Anyway, the other students and I brought some of those little sample sized deodorants to clinical and made a big deal out of needing to "freshen up" a bit during the day. Next thing we know she has her own little sample and better yet, was using it. Problem solved
Good luck...I'm sure you can think of some way to address it without embarrassing her.

well hey there.. you just have to tell them honestly that you can not bear the unhygienic practices they have.. and that nurses should be a rolemodel of health..discuss this matter with you them without hurting their feelings due to sarcastic approach.. give them enough time to realize that you can not take their smell anymore..also, give them some tips on how to make themselves likeable... otherwise, having bad breath could offend other people..

Thankyou all,
I appreciate your time and advices. unfortunately, this girl was failed by our clinical instructor. I felt very sorry for her, though.
