Im ready to make some changes and would like to get into the world of travel nursing. I'm an ER nurse and have been for the last 3 1/2 years. Does anyone have any info on traveling to Hawaii....what's the pay, average housing and M/I stipends. Thanks any input would be appreciated.

To have a chance at getting real numbers, you will need to call several real agencies. Travel nursing pay is complex and I've yet to ever see a traveler post their full and accurate compensation on a forum - heck is difficult for most travelers and recruiters to understand, and if you don't have a contract, it is difficult to even get real numbers from an agency. It would need to include hourly, housing value, per diem, travel pay, health insurance, car rental, license reimbursement, completion bonus, and factor in copays and taxation on the different portions of pay. Many travelers will take provided housing in Hawaii so the rest of their numbers will be meaningless.

I will say that although it is sometimes possible to get good pay in Hawaii, but for the most part, I think the goal is to not dip into savings for a working holiday. Between the cost of housing, food, and the plane fare, and perhaps car rental, Hawaii is perhaps the most expensive assignment and the pay is not better than other assignments typically.

I'm looking at doing Hawaii next as well. Just wondering if anyone has shipped their car there instead of renting. Average cost is about $2200 to and from California. Last time I rented a car for an assignment it cost me $1200/month with insurance, etc.

In hawaii now. Pay is crappy, but you get to enjoy the island. Dont come here to work for money. you wont make it. Your company should provide you with rental car. Watch the housing. moved 3 times because of roaches. I'm not extending.

I just posted this same thing! Where are you guys from? I'm in ER also...would be great to meet some other people interested in the same. I've spent the last 2.5 years in Cali. Great but I'm ready for a change. As posted above I would look at it as more of a working vacation vs. money maker. Feel free to PM me globetrotter and DM!!
