I am in the progress of taking BSN classes part-time. I am due towards the end of November, and you all know that most semesters end closer to the beginning of December. Have any of you managed to take a class, have a baby, and still pass it?

I am trying to gauge on whether it would be foolish to even try it. Experiences and advice welcomed!

Are you pre-licensure or doing RN to BSN? I did RN to BSN part time, worked full time, had a baby, moved, changed jobs. Doable. Don't know about pre-licensure, though; can't speak to that.

Yes, I am already a RN. I am working part-time in Med-Surg Oncology and taking two classes online right now. You did all of that! Wow, I am impressed! Do you have non-stop energy : )

LOL not at all! I do have a mostly stay-at-home spouse and a messy house, though. Good luck. I bet you'd do fine.

Hi everyone. I had my son Oct of 08 and graduated in March of 09. My school attendance policy was really strict. So i was able to have my son on Thursday,I didn't have school on Friday, Monday i didn't have class and be back at school on Tuesday because we had midterms. During the time that i was in the hospital i was studying and when i got out my classmates came to my house to help me study. I was able to pass with a "B". But after i had my son he went directly to a babysitter. I felt bad not spending that quality time with him but i knew I had to go back to school. With a great support system anyone can have a baby in nursing school and still pass.

No, I don't think it is foolish to pursue going to school. I had my son in October 08 and was due to graduate in december. I had the baby the weekend after hurricane Ike in Houston hit and went back to clinicals the following week. I was lucky, though, because the week I had him clinicals were cancelled due to the storm. I obviously passed, but it wasn't that easy. He was born sickly. He had surgery at one month due to a pyloric stenosis. So before then I was dealing with him throwing up, numerous doctor visists, changes in formula, and school work on top of that. I also had two other children to care for. He also had RSV three times, so I was constantly doing breathing tx on him, and took him to ER once. All this happened in the three months I had left to graduate. God gave me the strength to juggle all these problems. Truthfully, I did not study as much as my other classmates, but I am lucky that I am a good testaker, plus God was on my side. Many factors contributed to my passing:

1. God. He gave me strength, patience, and the knowledge to pass the tests.

2. I had failed out of an RN program before and this was my second chance but as an LVN. This motivated me to do better in school and I did not want to let my husband down again. He was very supportive. I did eventually try the RN program again at a different school. I graduated May 2010. :p

3. My family. The sacrifices I made were for their future because if I graduated then I could provide a better life for them financially. Plus having to wake them up early on clinical days, on cold days, made me work harder since they too had to sacrifice their warm beds and sleep so I can go to school.

4. My ego. I graduated top 10 percent of my class in HS. I got pregnant at 18 and put off college and was working minimum wage. I felt bad about myself so I decided start college because I am smart and can do anything I set my mind to. I am now 27 and will pursue my bachelor's first and hopefully a master's with God's help.

So yes, even with obstacles life throws at you, if you are willing and put your mind to it, you can accomplish whatever your heart desires.
