Up here in Maine, not at all. I walked in to the place I knew I wanted to work at, got an application, sent in a resume, and I was hired a week later! Not to say it's like that everywhere, but it was for me!

It was hard for me. I can only imagine what it's like now that the economy is cruddy. I live in MN. We are one of the few places that have too many nurses and CNAs.

I got my certification in June 2008 and got my first interview December of 20078 and started January 2009 at a local hospital in Michigan.

Nelle84, VOLUNTEER!!!! It gets your foot in the door, and as soon as they find out you're working on bettering yourself, they'll be interested in helping. It may take some time, but you'll gain lots of "free" experience as a volunteer, plus be helping your community. Look into places where you would like to work and pick one that best suits your life, or, if you have the time, volunteer at multiple places!

Best wishes!

Hmm, that's a good idea :D

I put in applications at 5 places. 2 of them called me back right away for interviews. I never heard from the other 3.

It wasn't hard for me. I got hired on at my clinical site before I was certified, but I think it isn't hard to find a job as a CNA in my state.

Applied at every hospital and lots of internet job sites and nothing! Obtained my cert in Oct and now it is almost May. Oh well. I did it for x-tra $$ anyway. I am attending LPN school this fall so at least I can start school knowing a little something.

Based on the replies so far, i guess it depends on whether you get lucky or not lol

yes it took my a few apps, but the job i ddint really want called me two days after i put my app in. i took it and i really like my job. depends where you put your app in etc.i think the hospitals get picky. but some people also realize you have to start somewhere as well. i always tell myself wherever i end up, is where im meant to be! good luck!
