hard to believe

i was recently told that my niece got into an rn program. I am having a hard time believing that an rn program would accept her given what type of person she turned out to be. i know this may come out sounding like im jealous but....im truly not..im happy for anyone who gets an opportunity to better themselves whether its a cna, lpn, rn, pa, md..whatever....but here it is. my neice has been a true disappointment to everyone...she doesnt have the mentality of an adult....her mentalitly is that of a teenager...probably about the age of 16 or 17 maybe. shes a chronic liar, she had a baby who she left when it was born and now my sister is raising her baby....thank god for her. she legally adopted the baby b/c my neice was on drugs and basically homeless...she abused all of her assets and the entire family. she has a long history of theft, lies, drugs, manipulation including some jail time here and there. she doesnt work, cant hold a job. she basically hops from friend to friend for a place to stay..usually its different men. when i went thru the lpn program it was brutal...and strict. the rn program i would think from what ive read and researched about it is just as strict if not more so. ex...a requirement is that all rn students must have health insurance...now why is that a requirement???/ have you ever heard of that? 95% of my town is out of a job and thus no insurance. anyways....my neice disappears for months and months at a time. and none of us know who shes with or where shes at or what shes into. if she did indeed somehow manage to get into such a wonderful program it makes me worry that if she makes it through it....who will suffer from her actions? it will go beyond just family....i think she'd be a dangerous nurse...i can already see her stealing pills especially narcs for herself and her friends. a nurse in my mind should be one of the most reliable honest people around....pts depend on us for care, meds, and answers. is there some kind of hidden rule that exists in any nursing program that says they have to take in applicants like her?/??? stil....i dont think that she has even done any of the required pre reqs....before applying to the rn program it is required to have chemistry and a few other things done and passed. ....this just really concerns me. i hope and think its one of her fabrications. the rn program isnt even announcing its new students til march 2010.i know people can change but....my neice has never changed for the better...shes only gotten worse over the years. am i crazy or does this sound like a hoax to any of you???? If she had shown any improvement that lasted for more than 2 days i would find it easy to be happy for her and offer any help i could to her.....but ....i know nurses personally who come from a similar background of stealing and lies and unreliableness....they cant find or hold jobs, theyve stolen narcs before, they've been no call no shows or been fired from numerous jobs.....how can ppl like this even keep a license???? im confused.

Are you sure she actually got in, or is she just saying that she passed the drug screen and background check...and has health ins...and was able to pay for school...?

i don't know what to tell you. you will be able to tell if she is in nursing school by her school hours , does she have a school uniform? what about books does she have the books? ask her the schedule for classes and clinicals... it's easy to find out..... i would think if she all the things you say she is then maybe she decided to turn her life around and make a fresh start. .. if she is all those things you say she will she will not pass the drug screens and will not make it through nursing school.. just because you get in to RN school dosen't mean you will graduate or pass NCLEX. ...... wait and see what happens.. i wish her a good life and as long as she is alive there is always hope for her. ...

I agree. Wait and see. She can't do all the things you say she does and sucessfully complete a nursing program. IF she has felonies she will probably be dismissed from the program because she wont pass the background check. Better yet she really did get into the RN program and is taking responsibility for her life and become a good responsible nurse. Lets hope. Keep us posted.

I actually talked to one of my cnas last night who is in this same rn program and guess what? she told me they just did student orientation for the NEW students who were accepted and I asked her if my neice was in there...she said she wasnt that she knew of......Im thinking that maybe my niece is taking some classes that will eventuallyget her in....but itll be hard to see her in a uniform or with books since she disappears for months on end with her binges and parties. I used to have alot of faith in her....spent so many hours, days and months talking to her trying to get her to see that she could have a future outside of guys and drugs so when she was at the end of her pregnancy..i truly believed that the baby was going to change her...she was doing good....then 1 wk after the baby came..she up and left and has never come back around so the courts got involved. She then proceeded to get pregnant again and had a miscarriage. her bf at the time was a methamphetimine user and an alcoholic.....which is about what all her men have been anyhow. she broke into my sisters house while she was at work and stole some guns and knives and threatened others with them. as for paying for it....i dont know how she'd do that....she has no job, no transportation, no actual home, no computer, i know that she has a few outfits that i gave her if she even still has them. im hoping that by the time shes in her 30's...shell be better but im doubtful of it at this point since ive dealt with it for so many years with her. I guess time will tell and I will surely keep you all posted. thanks so much :)
