I was going to a school during last fall but things didn't work out because it was too far but when I left I forgot to drop the classes so I got a bad grade. However, going into the new school I didn't transfer over the grades, I decided to start over. Can the grades from the old school affect me when I graduate?

If you are planning on going to another college afterwards, you are asked to provide transcripts for all schools attended. Especially if you are getting financial aid, they will know that you attended another school if you were getting financial aid there.
If I were in your position, I would retake the class that you got a bad grade in. If you are trying to go to a competitive entry school, I would write a letter explaining that the first grade you got was a result of not withdrawing properly, but that you had retaken it and gotten a good grade. College admission boards see this all the time and they understand that this happens. My guess would be that as long as you had retaken the class and got a decent grade in it, they will overlook the F or FA you got in it previously.
Good luck!

I don't see how you could "forget" to drop a class. Colleges/universities will ask for all transcripts from previous colleges and consider it academic dishonesty if you fail to do this. I wouldn't be sure they would not find out, either. Especially considering you have to use your social security number as a student ID. Your ss number is like a portal into your past. All kinds of information can be obtained from it. Info. you would never guess anyone would know.
Better to bite the bullet and retake the class or classes.

sometimes schools have specific cut off dates where you have to drop or the grade can come up as a W (withdrawn). If it's too late to do that, i guess it depends on what this new program is? if it's different, and you are kinda starting over, you're gpa may not be affected, especially if those old classes are not prerequisites for your new classes. The best thing would be honest with your academic advisor and ask, I think. (from experience, make sure you have a written copy of what he/she tells you)..t.
