What floor are you interviewing for? I have have applied there and many of my friends have applied there-and we have all been told that all new grads have to rotate days/nights. I'm not cool with that. Otherwise, it's a very good hospital.

UMC does what they call "primary care", which, for a new grad, wouldn't be very good IMHO. I've heard some very unfavorable things about that hospital.

What did u mean when u said they mainly focus on primary care? Why would that be bad for a new grad? And what bad things have u heard about UMC? I've heard mostly good things.

When I loved in Tucson 2 years ago i only heard really, really good things about UMC from their nurses. Go for it!
I said that because there is so much to learn when you get out of nursing school.
Primary care wouldn't be the best situation for a new grad. Primary care should only be done by experienced nurses IMHO.
As for what I heard; mostly from nurses who had worked there about how difficult it was to get help turning patients and in emergencies, that type of thing. But I've heard "horror stories" about every hospital in Tucson, for what it's worth.
The ideal situation would be to already live here so you could shadow before accepting a position.

What do you mean by "primary care"? I'm a little confused.
Primary care = working on your own. No nurse aide.
That's weird. I worked as a PCT there. I worked on every floor of the hospital (float pool). The only place without tech's was NICU. When did this change? Most of the girls in my program are working there as tech's now (even in the ICU), so I wonder if you've misheard that info??
Thanks yall. I interviewed for Cardio ICU but didnt get in. They required 120hrs experience in an ICU, which i didnt have. I have 2 other interviews lined-up. One with emergency department and MEd ICU. More inputs will be appreciated.
They should've told you that BEFORE you interviewed. grrr... Are the Emergency and MED ICU interviews at UMC too? Before you pour out your soul for another interview I'd ask if they require any hours of experience first. Again, they should've let you know BEFORE you interviewed. Sorry that happened to you.
Wow, that sucks! Good luck in the ER-it's the best.
