Getting off on the wrong foot

I'm a new nursing student in my 4th week. My pre-reqs are already completed. I'm worried that I have come across as irresponsible to my instructors. I missed a class this week because of childcare. Then today I missed an important event.

I'm embarrassed and worried that this week will make my instructors think less of me.

This is more of a vent, I guess. Has anyone else bounced back from a rough week so early on?

THX!!

Im my experience, if you let them know and keep them informed they are pretty forgiving when things come up. Now if it happens all the time, they wont like it. I have only missed one day of class in 1.5 years and that was for court. I showed my instructor the papers and said I would be gone and nothing bad came from it. Still got an A in that class.

You can bounce back from anything as long as you don't make it a habit and you apologize.

Don't feel bad. Last week was my 4th week as well and I couldn't make it to class because of my child as well. And to top it all off my group was presenting on Hygiene on Monday as well. I felt real bad because I didn't want my professor to think negative about me as well. So I call her that morning and explained to her my situation and she said ok. She moved the presentation to that Wednesday for my group and I didn't get penalized. So it will get better in time just as long as you don't make it a habit.

Don't worry about it. I would just let your instructor know what is going on. She may have some advice to help you get through the year. I will say that instructors do look at whose attending class and if your not at class and then don't do well on a test, they are less likely to help you out. As long as they know you are doing your best and you want to be there, they will do what they can to help you.

We have to remember too, that our Nursing Instructors were all once nursing students. They know that "life" has a way of changing our plans mid-stride at times and it will speak volumes for your character and committment if you go to them for advise. Chin up - 4th week may have been bad but 5th week doesn't have to be :-D
