Gen X was a bit older. We watched 9/11. We watched the changes that happened. Millennial and Gen Z or whatever grow up with the changes. They don't remember the buildings exploding, but they're also not going to hug their families at the gate before boarding a plane. They go to school with metal detectors. They weren't allowed to walk to the park down the street (because their parents will get arrested for neglect). In school, their parents may pile on 10,000 extra curricular activities, whereas Gen X's had more free time. These new generation grow up with computers and touch screens, Gen X grew up with DOS, and our parents are the ones that were first building computers. I have like a few rolls of film from my 20s and before, these kids will have their whole lives on permanent record.

When I was growing up, I had the "was born too late" feeling because I missed the freedom of the 60s and was too young for the 70s. Kids are getting arrested for school fights these days. So, glad I wasn't born later!
