Future Nurse

I recently applied for nursing school and was accepted to my surprise.

The school asked me if I had or have any charges pending.I explained to them when I was 23 I wrote a bad check (current age 39) which resulted in community service and me paying court fees and the check off. They advised me to go and do my own backround check because the one they offer go back pretty far.My question, where can I go to get a backround check done and is it possible that the old charge will show up?I currently work as a MA and never had any problems getting a job in the medical field.Any advice would be great.:up:I've called police dept's and all kinds of local service to get a backround check to no avail....Washington,DC area.....Thanks in advance

You may want to browse the nursing licensure with a criminal history forum under the career tab in the yellow bar at the top of the screen. Lots of personal stories and advice there.

I have gotten my checks done at the police station.

the company i did was called Harvest. The do all states and run various checks such as FBI and some others for $120. Also Be honest to the question. In advance get as much letters of references documents from work, anything that shows accomplishment. run for student body, volunteer. Sounds crazy but some states take things very serious and if they see it and you choose no on application when NCLEX time comes, they will hold your license or not let you take test. be honest, and best of luck. also get free consult with lawyer. or call BON, or professional discipline dept and ask
