Full time cc and full time job - can it be done?

Published

The title says it all. I'm wondering whether anyone has worked full time and completed their nursing prerequisites successfully? If you were successful, do you mind sharing a narrative about how you managed to maintain a 4.0 (or near) average. What was your sleep schedule? What was the typical study schedule for you? I'm taking A&P, Honors English, Honors Sociology (both reading heavy), Art and Medical Terminology. Actually, my job is an administrative per diem position. I am sure people who have worked f/t and successfully completed their courses will be super stars in scheduling their study time.

Please share your experience and study tips. Thanks.

I worked 40 hours a week and for 2 quarters I went full time. For the other other quarters I went 3/4 time (about 10 credits.) I maintained a 4.0.

I also slept 8 hours a night. Sleep is very important for you to do well. Basically I had no life. 90% of my freetime was spent studying. I tried to give myself a little down time as to not burn myself out. It honestly seemed harder looking back than while I was doing it though. While your actually doing it...you just do it. I like to refer to it as "robot mode." PS. I also have never seen my BP get as high as it did during that period of my life. Make sure you make a little time to exercise and eat healthy. Stress can really do a toll on your health which isn't going to make the journey any easier.

For me, I would say no. Part time yes, but full time I'd want to devote my time 100% to studying.

That's for me though.

The people that I saw working 40 hours a week struggled way more w/ a full load of classes. They seemed to be absent from class more frequently as well. I work 20 hours a week. In between working and school, I don't have much time for anything else. I value my sleep way more than my social life (which is why my boyfriend is my only friend =D). Whatever spare time I have, I get straight down to my homework. I don't want to be a downer and tell you that it's impossible to work full time and do your pre-reqs because I could be wrong and you'll end up maintaining a 4.0, but I would highly suggest either cutting down your units or work hours if you can. Don't stress yourself out anymore than you need to.
