On March 7, the Federal Trade Commission staff issued a policy paper, Policy Perspectives: Competition and the Regulation of Advanced Practice Nurses. It's a good read.

Yes, speaks about NP independence from a market standpoint: that not allowing NP independence is essentially allowing physicians to have a "monopoly" of sorts on healthcare and does not encourage competition.

I agree, and hopefully it will help persuade more legislatures to continue to remove unnecessary restrictions. It appears that the tide is pushing in our favor, and we are at a time when we should be able to push for removal of these restrictions fairly successfully.
