Ft Bliss

Any Army Nurses out there stationed at FT Bliss? Or anybody been there recently? I am graduating nursing school in a few weeks and just found out that I will be going to Willaim Beaumont Army Medical Center at FT Bliss. Just wanted the scoop on the place. Thanks.

I can't answer that question for you, but I am also in the process of trying to get into the ANC. I would like information on the best Army Medical Center to be stationed at. I would really like one that I can learn a lot since I will be fresh out of nursing school.

Welcome to the ANC! I don't know much about Ft Bliss or WBAMC - but am headed there myself this summer. Feel free to PM me and I can fill you in on what I know so far!

Congratulations on your decision to enter the ANC! I am hesitant to identify any one facility as the "best Army Medical Center" as they all have different flavors and opportunities. I will tell you that I have been assigned at Brooke AMC (San Antonio), Walter Reed AMC (Wash DC), and facilities in Korea and Germany. All of the experiences were excellent and different. I suspect that everyone you ask will give you a different opinion on which is the "best." My advice is to be assigned to a large MEDDAC or MEDCEN for your first assignment. Those tend to offer the highest volume of acutely ill/injured patients so you can fine tune and hone your knowledge base, critical thinking abilities, and clinical skills. Feel free to PM me for facility-specific information.

Good luck!

I'm currently attending 14 week Critical Care Nurse Course at Madigan Army Medical Center. Upon completion of the course I'll remain at MAMC for 3 yr committment as an 8A. Two of my ANC classmates are TDY from WBAMC. They both like the Medical Center, yet not real happy with EL Paso.

Anyway, watch for my PM. I will send you my AKO Webmail address. Then, you can send me an email inquiry for which I can forward to my two classmates from WBAMC.

Hi everyone,

I met with my recruiter yesterday and I gave him my three choices. I chose Fort Gordon, Fort Sam Houston, and Fort Lewis. Has anyone been to these facilities?

I was in the [RC] with the 5501st USAH, FSH, TX and did my drill Saturdays at BAMC on 2N/SICU. Presently, I'm in the [AC] attending the 14 week resident Critical Care Nursing Course at Madigan Army Medical Center. I graduate Aug 3, then will stay at MAMC as an 8A for 3 yrs.

I too have been at BAMC (1995-1997). I have been to Madigan and Ft. Lewis, but know nothing about DDEAMC or Ft. Gordon.

Feel free to ask specific questions either via PM or open forum.

I saw this quote regarding madigan army hospital. My husband and I have both been offered positions at madigan and I would really like to know your opinion on the facility. Could you tell me about the learning opportunities, working conditions, employee morale and what ever other pertinent item you can think of. Thanks so much for your help.

I was stationed at Fort Lewis for 4+ years.... (non nurse capacity) and after I complete my BSN and apply to for DA as a nurse - it will be my #1 choice for duty assignment. If you have some specific questions you can PM me.... it has really grown recently... now that it has 3 (of the 7 total...) stryker brigades it truly is a strategic power ;) It's a beautiful area... on post and off post living conditions are great... good northwest appeal and family friendly... I shadowed some nurses there last month and they really liked it - the facilites were clean and morale was high from my quick day of observation ;)
