Frustrated

I made a 99 on the accuplacer test to get into college and I got stuck with a horrible emglish1301 teacher! He treats the class more like an advanced literary writing class! Now I am at risk of ending the semester with a C (very low B if I am lucky!!) I am soooo frustrated! Do you think this will hurt me in the application process?

Unfortunately it is impossible to know whether or not you will love your college professors. For future reference, I suggest using ratemyprofessor.com and asking other students' opinions. But sometimes you have no choice and have to take from a less than likable professor. In that case, you have to suck it up and do your best.

In answer to your question, a C will obviously lower your GPA. However, since it is not a nursing prereq (as A&P, chemistry, psych, and the like are) than I would guess that you'll be fine (as long as you maintain a good GPA and get better grades in other classes).

Since this is English, you might check and see if your school has some student service like a writing center where you can get help with proof reading and writing papers.

I highly recommend ratemyprofessor.com as a guide of sorts. Also, I would focus on just finishing the semester and trying to get at least a B in the rest of your pre reqs.

If your nursing staff sees that every other applicant that has had that teacher has gotten c's and b's, and you do the same, it will put you in the same exact boat as everyone else. What will impress your nursing staff the most is if you get a "b" or an "a." They will see that you took a difficult task and did well. If so, you may be picked before others because they know you are up to the task. Either way, don't settle for any grade. Just do your best and everything else will work itself out.

Good luck!

Sorry you are feeling so negative about your English class. However, I do want to point out that writing skills are very relevant to nursing education. Particularly if you decide to pursue an advanced degree. The ability to express yourself clearly and articulately will also be important in terms of your career.

OTOH, I always encourage everyone to explore the possibility of CLEPing these types of courses. If you can, the result is just a 'pass' without any impact on your GPA. I have never taken any college English classes - CLEPed them all! CLEPed Sociology & Psych intro also... It was not very difficult.

Idk the rules for your college but you can't retake classes you received a B in but u may retake a class you got a C in. If you college works the same way, I advise you take the C and take the class again next semester. If you want a perfect 4.0 for nursing, no expense could be spared.
