Freaking Out

Published

My NCLEX exam is in 2 days and I'm freaking out. I feel like I don't know anything. What should I drink or take before going into the exam room to calm my nerves down?

here are some tips:

  • don't panic - it is the worst thing you can do.
  • you already studied hard and you know all the material that needs to be known. over training-over preparing is not good.
  • go out and watch a movie the day before your test.
  • go to your favorite restaurant and eat a good meal with your friends and family.
  • get some good sleep.
  • wake up, eat a breakfast that will keep you going througout the test.
  • lastly, say a little prayer before you take your test.

hope this helps! good luck!

I took my exam in july with 265 questions, i was litterally shaking in my seat. i couldnt sleep the night before, i couldnt even swallow my breakfast...its was a total nightmare! i lost all concentration while i was in the exam and i ended up failing. BUT...i did take my exam again for the second time and i went in there with the mindset of you know this stuff, you went through all those years at nursing school, you prepared yourself as best as you could just focus. i got myself a coffee and a breakfast sandwhich on the way, i got there a little nervous but not nearly as freaked out as last time. i sat down, said a little prayer and hit the next button and started.:typing 2 hours and 75 questions later i passed!!! you really can't let nerves get the best of you (easier said then done i know) but you have to go in there with confidence that you are ready for this. Just take deep breaths and have faith in yourself. i wish you all the luck!! you'll do great.:)

oh yea and the day before ...dont think about it!!! I went and got my hair highlighted and got a cute cut, and i got a pedicure. Im just telling you my experiences from 1st time freaking and 2nd time going in relaxed it really did make all the difference!

I have heard so many nurses tell me that they left the exam "sure" that they had failed only to find out that they passed. Don't let your feelings get the better of you. You are as prepared as you are going to be, take a hot bath the night before, relax, get some sleep and just do your best!

Hang in there, I feel your pain. I test tomorrow afternoon. :( At this point I just want to get it over with. I read somewhere to do exactly what you would normally do right before taking a test. You know, stick to your usual routine. So I'm here on allnurses chatting it up! :D I always study right before a test so I've thrown together some cool random facts from the random sticky thread and will review those tomorrow morning along with a few simple med calculations. I've already scoped out the test site, know where I'm parking and such and how long it takes to get there (very important- you don't want to be rushed on the big day). I even have my lucky underwear all ready to go for tomorrow. :jester: Good luck and your rock that test!!!!

I heard there's this tea I could take to relax me? Is that true? If so, what's the name of that tea?

Never mind..I've found the tea. It's called chamomile tea.

Be careful with that tea before an exam. It is usually taken at night when one wishes to relax to go to sleep. Since you have not used it before, not wise to take it just before an exam like this.
