Foreign graduates?

Published

Hello,

Its probably a dumb question but I am a little confused. What is the meaning of "Foreign graduates" in every state board of nursing website? Is this counts for RN only, or LPN or both? Thanks. and good day...:banghead:

Foreign graduate means exactley what it is. Someone who did not train in that country is classed as foreign. Covers both LPN and RN. But as a PN unless you get a visa via another route is marriage then you will find it impossible to get a work permit in another country, Some countries no longer train PN's or equivalant and immigration usually requires RN and pass in local boards. This is the same for the US, some boards require pass in local licensure before you can sit PN NCLEX. Just because you can sit the exam in another country will not guarantee a work permit as you also have to meet immigration requirements

hi,

Im a US green card holder. I graduated PN in the Philippines. We dont have local board for PN here. Is that mean that I dont qualify to work in the US since i dont have local board? What do i answer in my application when they ask for that? Plus the work experience, i just graduate and going back to the US soon. Appreciate your help. Im :uhoh3:still wondering where to apply for my license.

These are questions you need to ask the BON in the state you are going to live in. Each BON will have their own requirements even if foreign trained and they may not endorse you if you do not meet their requirements if applying to one state but plan on working in another

See thats my problem . I dont think there is one BON that is not asking for local license on there application form. Even with the work experience. I dont have work experience since we dont have license here and the only thing i have is my clinical experience. So whats my options here?:banghead:. Having a green card doesnt mean anything since they make it hard for a foreign graduates to get in and work as a nurse in the US.

The only way you can go through this is contact the BON/BRN directly and give them all information and ask them if you can process with application for PN.

Your last sentence is a bit harsh as many countries will not accept LPN regardless of already having GC/work permit or citizenship also LPN 's are not in short supply and if you had GC before you did your training then ou could have staying in the US and trained.

Thank you Silverdragon. Just frustrated. I apologize for that. I guess i'll just call and find out..Thanks again for the help and for the info.:saint::saint::nurse:. I didn't get my training over there cause its very expensive. financial problem.

There are lots of BON that do not require a local license. They ask for the details IF YOU HAVE ONE, but you don't necessarily need one for many states. eg. Vermont ask if you have x number of recent clinical hours, but you can just write that you are a new grad and you don't have to have a local license.
