FNP program - Texas

Hello everyone,

I am a resident of Texas and so looking into different FNP programs . I am having hard time to find which is good program since having multiple reviews - positives and negatives. So far UTEP seems good and has good reviews but I live in Dallas so not sure if that would require travel then what they have mentioned (3-4times each sem , in last 3 sems).

I have thought about UTA but have so far got more negative reviews. TWU needs GRE so don't want to go.

Please help!

Thanks

I have heard Texas Tech is an excellent program. Most at that level will require some degree of travel at least some of the time. I think you will likely have to accept that.

As far as good and bad reviews, you will have to look at specifically what is bothering the people about the school. Determine whether their complaints would actually be an issue for you or not. No school is going to be perfect and you can expect some disgruntled people everywhere. Happy students aren't on the Internet posting about it. They are studying and getting things done, graduating and working.

Moved to student NP forum

As a UTEP alum, the program is solid. It sounds like classes are done same as when I attended, (One weekend per month) so yeah plan on travel. Very reasonable tuition ($15K). I have applied for DNP for Fall 2016. PM me if you have questions.

Sailornurse,

I am unable to send since I do not have 15 posts yet. so hopefully will get in touch with you soon.

Thanks for the information. Its very helpful.

Also just one more question so I just have to travel one weekend per months right?

Also I work 8-5pm 5 days a week . So is it still manageable?

How is the support from coaches and advisors?

Thanks

Yes doable but anyway to change your hours? Or can you use PTO for those Fridays you will have class? It is pretty intense. I did not work full time, cut back to 32 hours, then switched to PRN pool, sometimes working 20-25 hours per week. My last semester I really had to cut back to get my clinical hours in.

Thanks so so much for all the info. I am planning to do part time or PRN but after 1 yr I program when clinical starts. will that work? or You recommend doing it from beginning?

Also the FNP director said that the program is completely online with 3-4 times per sem coming in in the last 1.5 year. So Friday classes will be online or how is it?

can you PM me please?

I did University of Cincinnati MSN FNP online program no gre required and no requirement to go to c pus and pretty reasonable prices. UC online MSN programs are the #7 program in the country by US News and World Report. I worked full time 36 hours a week didn't have to do weekend program and spread it out over 3 years, it's designed to complete in 2 years.

Thank you so much for the info. Will look into that program. Is there any way you can tell me the pros and cons regarding this program?

Try UTMB or UTHSC. Also TWU. All are schools in Texas
