I pray that your father's health improves so you can relax a little there and with your job.

Many prayers going up for you all.

Hang in there.

Legally, they only have to protect your job for 120 days.

After that, they can terminate you for not returning to work.

120 days obviously doesn't cover every situation, but unforunately, that is how it works.

PS: I would dig a little deeper into finding resources to care for your father. I have read several places were people that are here legally, but not US Citizens, have alot of the access to healthcare, such as a nursing home, as US Citizens do.

Make an appt with the hospital social services dept and see if there are any resources that can be utilized for your dad. My prayers go out to you and your family. FMLA only lasts for 12 weeks and that is the only length of time that your job is safe. Beyond that, most facilities will give you a little extra time, like a month or two, of unpaid leave and still hold your job, but they are not required to do so. Some places will give you even longer but will tell you your old position may not be available, that they can place you in another position. Best suggestion: if you're that worried about your job, contact your HR department and ask them.

Does your employer have an EAP (Employee Assistance Program)? They can at the least provide couneling and stress management. Ours helped an employee find care long distance for her father as well. Our prayers are with you.

I would also contact your County Social Services office.......Some states have what are in effect waiver programs for those who are not covered by federal programs...
