I am sitting here with my guts in a knot, not wanting to go to work at my CNA float pool job.

Jess I Am so sorry. What is it about it that makes you so nervous? Big Hugs and hope you get through the day ok. Is it bad enough that you are wishing or a new job?

Specializes in Long term care.

Sorry you seem so stressed.

I'm wondering too if it's a new job .= you'll be ok, you'll get through it!!!

or you are having a hard time at a current job. = maybe it's time to find something else ? no job is worth the stress and anxiety! There's a better job out there for you!

Either way, You got this!!!!

mvm2, your kind words helped me through. Thank you! I made it to my "weekend" and I have an interview for another position tomorrow so I'll fill you in on details then. For now... SLEEP!

missingyou, thanks for your vision of hope! Fact is, when school starts in two weeks I'll either be per diem (which means less exposure) or I'll snag a plum job in assisted living (please, please, please, please!) Either way, the stress will abate.

Fingers crossed you get the job!

Good luck with the interview!

Hello my big-hearted and smart online support buddies!

Is it a good sign that the interview lasted more than an hour and a half and that I got a tour of the facility, including the med room?

Still, I was exhausted and a bit loopy, I think. The interview was set for two hours after I woke up on my first day off after a particularly difficult week. I interviewed with the ALF manager and nurse. Both these women were terrific and the nurse is someone I would love to have as a personal friend. She was a float nurse in the associated ALF/LTC/TCU facility where I'm currently working as a float CNA and she totally get the challenges of being a float, trying to form bonds with residents when you're in a different place every day and being treated like a scum puppy by the "regulars." Plus, it's obvious that having caring and meaningful relationships with the sisters is important to her. When I asked my interviewers to answer the same question they'd asked me, "What do you see as the hardest part of this job?", the nurse said something to the effect of "not tearing the heads off of people who don't treat the sisters well." Love that she cares and love that she realizes that head-tearing needs to be held in check. I would love to be under her mama bear wing as I go through nursing school. (Sorry for the mixed metaphors.)

Can you have "love at first sight" with a job?

I want, want, want this job! I want it for the relationship potential. At the risk of blowing my anonymity, it's a weekend CNA for the assisted living floors of a residence for retired Catholic sisters. (They desperately need someone to work on Sundays and who better to step into that role than a nice Jewish girl?) My father's best friend was a nun from the same order that runs and populates the facility.(They met when he was the director of a treatment center and she thought she might be called to be a chemical dependency counselor. She decided it was a false alarm, but they stayed friends forever after.) Meeting her and her sisters gave me HUGE respect for sisters in general. They are smart, tough, hard-working, independent women. It would be a huge honor to serve them and a delight to work with the staff who are not only technically skilled but kind, smart and supportive.

No matter what happens with the job, I will remember what I learned from my father's special sister and ask, "Where will I find the gift?" Perhaps being inspired is all this is meant to be. But sometimes in this line of work I suspect that's everything!

Sounds wondeful. I'll say an extra prayer tonight just for you Jess and hope you are the one to get the job.

Thank you! Now I know the outcome will be just what it's meant to be.
