Flat Feet

As in, I have incredibly flat feet! I wear special flip flops to prevent my heels from aching. The heel of the foot is where I develop a tight, throbbing pain.

I have been wearing Dansko's but they begin to hurt after 6-7 hours. Also, they are not very steady. I tripped the other day on a cap that had not been properly discarded of.

So, suggestions to give me a better arch & more support?

You might be better off investing in orthotics. I have flat feet as well and it was becoming more and more painful getting through my shifts; felt the pain start in the foot, move to my ankles, progressed to my shins. Finally, I had had enough and went to my dr for a referral.

After getting custom made orthotics, it was a little bit painful adjusting in the beginning but after two months or so, the difference was amazing! I'm still wearing them 2 1/2 years later.

I have super flat feet too - no arch. I HATE Danskos. They are horrible. The best things that work for me are the new Skechers with the gel memory foam inserts. They are awesome. No foot pain, comfortable, light weight! If your facility is a stickler for dress code they probably won't fly though - the pair I have are black with rainbow elastic laces. LOL!

My son has flat feet...he isn't a nurse but he loves birkenstocks...it was recommended to him by a podiartrist

Ditto on the Birkenstocks - but dang they're ugly!!

You may want to check out Alegria shoes - footbeds & arch support comparable to Birkies. They have a plentiful selection of men's & women's professional shoes in a variety of styles. I love them & they last forever. You can purchase replacement footbed/insole for $20.

While I have a few pairs of alegrias, and they are comfy, I can NOT get past how LOUD they are. I swear, they sound like a herd of cattle clanking down the hallway. And I have one pair that squeaks so badly that I have thought about trying to take WD40 to them.
