Hey everyone....

I recently graduated from a BSN program in Florida and I just found out that I have to move in !!!ten days!!! (husbands in the military). I had previously planned on taking my Nclex in FL, but now I wont have time.... I have begun investigating on how to apply to take my Nclex in California and everything looks good but one thing[/u]. I cant figure out what my nursing school has to send to the board office to release me to take my boards (and my school wont help me find out) :angryfire . I know in the state of Florida the school must forward your name to the nursing board before you can even register to take your boards. Does anyone know if CA has the same requirements??

I have called CA Board office to ask many times!!! and they only say that the school has to forward a copy of my transcripts. This just seems to easy :o .

Does anyone have experience with being an out of state grad appling to take the Nclex in CA??? If so what did you have to do??? I thought my stress level would decrease after finally graduating but it keeps going up!!!

Thanks for any help!!!

Is there a reason why you want to go through the California BON? You can go through the Florida BON to get your ATT (authorization to test) and still write the NCLEX in California. If you do that your lisence will be from Florida once they get the passing results of your NCLEX and then you can just endorse that lisence to California.

I don't know if this is more complicated for you, but I got my permission to write the NCLEX and initial lisensure through the Minnesota BON, wrote the NCLEX in NY, then endorsed my lisence to Washington state so I know you don't have to register in the state you plan on writing the NCLEX in.

I'm getting ready to graduate in Nebraska but will probably move back to California. All the research I've been doing is showing that you will probably be better off getting your ATT card from the Florida board of nursing and then just taking your test at a testing center in California. As the other poster said...technically, you can take the NCLEX in any of the 50 US states and then will be issued a Florida license. California is experiencing HUGE backups on the turn-around time for getting the ATT cards out b/c of all the staff reduction due to our budget issues. In addition, w/ all the interviewing I've done out there, the HR people say that it can sometimes take up to 6 months to get your license turned around into a CA license BUT...if you just go up to Sacramento and pay them your $60 to switch it over, they will usually be able to give it to you that day. I'd say that's worth a plane ticket up there or a quick little road trip. hope that helps!!!

If all of your paperwork is in order (fingerprints, verification of current RN license, etc.) then it is much easier to go to the BORN in Scramento and get your temporary license in person. This is what I did when I relocated to California. Be prepared for a wait but you will get the temporary license in hand that day, so you will be "good to go" for a nursing position. There is a huge backup and delay if you do it via mail but not so if you go directly to the BORN with all of your paperwork completed.

Hey, everyone!

I'm graduating in August and planning to move to CA too. The verification of current RN license has to be sent directly to Scramento, right? It's said that it usually takes about 1 week for BON in Scramento to process this. May I know your experience?

Thanks!

A florida license is the most expensive of all the licenses in the country. I too am leaving after graduation (from Florida like the OP) but to save money, will do everything in PA. I'd check with the California BON to see what they need and do it in one shot with them if it were me.
