FIU Fall 2011?

Hi everyone, I am finishing my AA right now, I have about 2 more semesters to go and then I will apply to the Basic BSN program at FIU. I have questions for those already in the program or those who have graduated from it. I'd enjoy hearing any experiences, likes, dislikes, etc.

So my questions are:

  • What made FIU stand out to you?
  • What was your GPA when you got accepted? Were you a transfer to FIU or were you a freshman there?
  • How much do they look at your essay?
  • How was the Hesi A2 in terms of difficulty and how long did you study to get your score?
  • Did work in the program? What scholarships were helpful to you? I also want to know what you think about the extra costs. For example, I know you need to have a PDA/ipod touch, etc. How much did you spend on books alone first semester?
  • If you can, provide advice about teachers.... however, thanks to ratemyprofessor, it may be unnecessary. :) Hehe.
  • What are those two prenursing classes like? The COM and NUR ones?

Again, any info would be great, thanks so much for commenting. :)

LOL now I am scared :| If that's the case then I'm stuck like chuck. I would have to go to MDC too. I mean I like MDC, that is where I am now, and I know the program is good but I want to go to FIU because I live like 5 min away. So we'll see. :( I'll let you know.

Hi I haven't called (waiting for my phone to get connected lol... forgot to pay the pill again!) but here is what I was trying to say, from the cnsh.fiu.edu page...

Application Deadline is May 15th

Students may complete prerequisites during Summer semester prior to the Fall semester to which you are seeking admission.

NO need to feel that way. I happens to the best of us, LoL. What I did bc I was in a similar situation at FIU I took classes that were interesting and fun and would raise my GPA. I also used my forgiveness for classes I got a 'C' in like my finite class since forgivenesses can't be used once in the nursing program. If you have one more semester to wait to apply don't stress it, It's for a reason : )

On eagles wings: I saw that on the website too but I spoke to the nursing advisor again and he told me that its wrong. He's asked the school to fix the info on the website but it still hasnt been upgraded. If you are going to apply by May 15 then you have to be done with all the pre reqs before hand, in that spring semester :/

NightNurse876: Thank You :) i decided to relax not stress it and finish my pre- reqs and do a minor in psychology, or nutrition or biology until then. That should help as well when i apply but I am staying positive :)

:( I'm going to cry. I am going to be there like at 8am to complain, seriously. Its not fair that we have to pay the price for their disorganization. At least MDC would let students know months before hand when there would be a change in admission requirements. This is stupid. I am going to go and tell them what's on my mind...

respectfully of course.

aww dont be sad! Of course i am too and a bit discouraged to have to take more time with this but, I cant do anything about it because I am not going to cram two semesters worth of classes in one. But tomorrow i have an appointment with the advisor again so im going to roll a list of questions once again and i'll post anything i find out. Hopefully when you go you hear something different from someone else, let it be good news. Good luck to the both of us!

Thanks lol. You are right. Sigh. I'm working on getting my CNA so I think I am just going to save up like crazy. What time are you going? I have a class at MDC Wolfson Campus at noon so I plan on going to FIU like at 8am lol. Where exactly is the Nursing Advising dept? Never been there. So, should I just ask to talk to any nursing adviser? You know I hope that with all these wacko changes, they end up taking off those two classes(into to nursing & comm) as pre-reqs. That'd be awesome ;)

Thats great you will have an income from there (: I have a class at 8 and my appointment is at 2:30 so ill be at fiu that whole time. The nursing bldg is called AHC-3, rm 121. Its right in front of a construction site they're doing. When you walk in just tell whoever is on the front desk that you have a couple of questions about classes, etc and they'll tell you what to do. And i wish so too but the advisor told me that the communications class is pretty easy and can be taken online. Unfortunately, there isnt an option for the nursing class plus theres only one and its only on friday. ohh well

Thanks for letting me know!!!! Aghhhh I guess I should be getting to sleep. But now I am all blah. Oh well~ Let me know what they tell you and stuff. Good luck to us.

So i went to my advisor today again and theres a waiting list for the nursing class incredibly long...but, thank goodness i signed up for it last semester. There is also a waiting list for anatomy and he said that I should be getting an email explaining all the changes and bad news that have not been updated on the nursing website. So I am waiting for that email to get here quickly! Did you go?

Hey! Yes I did go, but he couldn't see me. I have to go tomorrow in the afternoon. :(

Nooooooo way there is a waiting list for that class? LOL UGH! -.- This is insane. I can't wait to start nursing school. It seems like there is always an obstacle in the way. :| Oh well, did they tell you anything else?

oh man that sucks well have all your questions ready for tomorrow and its driving me crazy, now I have to change my schedule all over again because of anatomy, etc. Well lets just overcome these obstacles! that's what it is all about :) Oh he said not to worry about the nursing class because a lot of people always drop it (about 40, he expects) so there will be room. (my friend is on that waiting list, and she couldnt get a permission code to enroll in it so she has to wait until other students drop it). Just keep checking or I dont know if you enrolled already, but, dont worry that one shouldnt be a problem. I asked sooo many things now I dont remember...well no I think thats all thats relevant to you. Now I have to plan and enroll in other classes again :( good luck! and let me know what you hear tomorrow :]
