First nursing interview THURSDAY!!

Featured Replies

Chances are that you could go in wearing overalls and get the job.

Last I remember a navy blue suit.

#1) Ask about a shadow day!!! before you make a committment

The rest is throughout these posts.

Good luck and congrats and YOU WILL BE FINE! The choice is yours there are a lot of places that will want a new grad.

Hey, I'm actually interviewing for jobs right now as well. Although I am certainly not a seasoned nurse, I'm graduating in June, I can tell you some questions that I have had so far. They have asked me:

Why do you want to work here

Why do you want to go into Oncology

What would you do if a nurse was not following protocol for a procedure

Tell me a time when you implemented the nursing process

How have you dealt with a conflict you have had

What would you do if you could not feel your patient's pedal pulse and was not heard on doppler

Etc...

I wear dress black pants and a nice shirt. I have seen people wear suits to their interviews as well, but I wasn't going to buy one because I would never use it again. I was told by nurse recruiters that spoke with us that they don't care, but they said wear one if you have it. They also said that they do not want to see people with capri's, wearing cleavage revealing tops, etc... Anyway, good luck with your interview! I hope some of this helps. One more thing, don't go in acting like because you will be graduating, you should automatically get a job. The nurse recruiters told us they absolutely hate this and it happens all the time. Perhaps that's because everyone stresses there is a nursing shortage in America but where I am from, there isn't a shortage. So anyway, I hope it goes well.

I will be graduating in May and have been on a few interviews lately. I would definately wear dress pants and a nice shirt. Is your interview with the unit manager or with human resources? Ask for a tour of the unit and ask questions about their nurse/patient ratio, average length of stay, their new hire orientation process, etc.

All of my interviews have been pretty much the same. They ask questions like:

-tell me about your 5 year plan

-tell me about a time when you have used critical thinking

-tell me about a time when you have had a difficult patient

-tell me about a time when you have had to be a patient advocate

-what would your last clinical instructor say are your 2 biggest strengths

-what is one area you feel you need to work on

I know there are other questions I am missing but you can get an idea of what to expect. Good luck!

I:nurse: would just like to say CONGRATULATIONS to all of you who has made it through and you will be fine:grad:. We are pursuing a career that is very high in demand. I will be starting LPN April 8th and I am so nervous......but this is not about me I just want to say again CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU ALL AND I WISH YOU THE BEST IN YOUR FUTURE...:yeah::dncgbby:
