I left school nursing a year ago after a horrible crash & burn (at school no less!) I really thought I was finished with nursing and considered myself retired after 32+ years. Well, a new job literally fell into my lap and I started today. This time it's a small elementary school--my last school was a very large middle school.
What a lovely experience~ It was quiet & calm, rather than loud & chaotic. Nobody cursed me, chastised me or made me feel like an idiot(I"m sure that day will come.) I worked with another nurse who was just as serene as a saint. And the kids were sweet as could be, except for one little hellion(there's a long sordid history there.)
It was such a relief! I was a bit anxious about throwing myself out there, but as I said, this job just fell into my lap and I knew it was meant to be. Everyone in the office was so nice and the admins were really great. And apparently they're always like that. I really enjoyed my day and it's good to be a school nurse again.

I had a good feeling about this job for you! I am glad you are enjoying it. I love the elem. level and hope to never have to "graduate" to middle or high school kiddos.
Thank you all for the support. This job feels good, it really does. I can't tell you how much I have needed this. I had really begun to believe that maybe I just wasn't cut out for nursing anymore. But you know, once you're a nurse you never stop thinking like one. I have a day of orientation with the lead nurse at her school tomorrow and three days at my school next week. Then they have a 3-day vacation.
