Hello,
I've just been offered a position for Case Manager. I'm very excited about the job because it's a major career upgrade for me and I love what I'll be doing.
I have been asked to give HR my salary requirements. I did some research on the average salary range and found it to be pretty wide, anywhere from $44,000 to $115,000. I don't want to go too low or price myself out of the job.
Can anyone offer some possible ranges of salary for the following information?
The Position:
Case Manager for Elderly to help them stay in their homes as long as possible
Case Load of approximately 35 patients
Manager and supervise LPNs and CNAs
Assess patients and lots and lots of documentation and paperwork
Location: Syracuse, NY
My qualifications:
I have a BSN
I have 2 years experience in Long Term Care and Mental Health
I have never worked as a Case Manager but have approx. 3 months home care experience
Any input you can offer on salary range would be appreciated, Thank you.

It really depends. It's difficult to answer because there are so many variables. Experience in the particular area you are being hired for, insurance company or otherwise, etc. Whenever I was asked to enter desired salary when applying for a position I always put "negotiable".
I work in Prior Auth, I am an RN, I do not have my BSN (but I'm currently in the RN-BSN program), I work from home and I make $90,000. For the most part, you will not get paid more for BSN, just like I will not get a raise or be put in a higher range when we get our annual raise. I also have my CCM certification. No raise with that, either.

I had no case management experience when I was recently hired into a work-from-home CM position for a major insurance company. My starting salary is about $75k annually. I am in Texas.

Just to give a different perspective - I am NOT an RN, in fact i only had my BS in Physiology when I applied, however i WAS nearly done with my MHA program. At the time I was offered 26$ to start as a case manager 1 which is basically chronic disease management and speaking to patients at minimum once a month, often times more like twice or more. The case load started off slow at about 40, but at this time I'm at 95. That was a little over a year ago!

Many variables involved. You do have limited requirements. I would ask for 25% over your current salary. All they can do is say no.

Reading over the job responsibilities, this sounds more like a Home Health position than a true Case Management position. A lot of HH agencies will call their RNs "Case Managers" and, while they do have CM responsibilities, they're also responsible for HH visits and direct care.
What company is it for? I would ask directly if it is a home health position. I would hate for you to sign the dotted line for what I thought was one job and have it end up being something completely different.

I came into my role as CM for an insurance company with NO CM experience. I had only had bedside direct care experience in a SNF setting for 4 years, plus 1 year in utilization review. I was started at 69k annually plus a great benefits package, 9 paid holidays, 13 days PTO the first year. I noticed that our local hospital pays a higher range ($36 to $52/hour) for case managers. I am in Oregon.
