First Assignment...HELP!!

Hi all!!!

I just filled out an application with a company with a great reputation (on assignment). This is the issue... I wanted to go to NC (Charlotte, Durham, or Raliegh), but the only assignment is in Greenville at a hospital I have never heard of. I was also informed about positions at Providence and Palmetto hospitals in Columbia, SC. I will be in the ICU. I told my recruiter to let me get back with her. Has anyone worked in SC or NC before? I have heard nothing but great things about ON Assignment, but I also want a company with a bigger variety of assignments to choose from. I know that American Mobile and Cross Country have hundreds of choices, but I have heard nothing but BAD reports about those "evil empires" and I would hate to be in a place I love, but with company I hate, you know? This will be my first travel assignment and I am nervous.....make the SCARED!!! Any imput would be great. I am torn on what move to make. I know that the first assignment will probably be the most scary and that I will learn from mistakes, but I would REALLY love any advice, esp if you are with On assignment or another great company. Wife is currently with American mobile as well as Medical express. Sister companies. We haven't had any problems at all!! She worked at Pitt County Hospital in Greenville. We loved it... well sorta.....was there through July and it was HOT as H@#$ 120 degrees !! Nice area wore out the swimming pool and exercise area.

Again, not every agency has contracts in every single state, some have more concentrations in other areas. Have you checked out the facility on the computer? Most hospitals have a website where you can check them out.

I work for them and just love them.

But if you have specifics as to where you wish to work, then perhaps you need an agency that specializes in that area. My preference is to go with an agency that I trust. That always comes first.

My last assignment, I had no idea of where it was, but trusted my recruiter and actually stayed there for three contracts. Just loved the place and I had no idea as to where it was when we were driving there.

I am starting my 1st assignment with Preferred Healthcare apart of American Mobile, and the main reason why I chose this co is b/c they had the location I wanted. My recruiter though is excellent. American Mobile and their sister companies have bad reps, "big companies" = low pay, but assignments nationwide. After reading several posting in this forum I have realized no co is perfect and you should ALWAYS have a great recruiter.

I have applyed to several Companies due to where I want to go ,not each company has a great assignment where you want to go.I look at each contract like a pie which is divided up how much you get depends on the hospital billing rate and how much you need Housing car ect. and how much profit the company need to make on you.

Iam on a assignment now that has spolied me and I know when I finish this one the next one may not be as great but I want to go to a special area and Iam not willing to be as flexable. Their are about 7 travelers at the hospital were Iam working and we share alot about companies pay ect. One of the site shared was travelnursingcentral.com I pay $2.99 a month for the site but found it very much worth it. Alot of travel have shared INFO about agency and Hospital on this site you can rate your agency and hospital that you have worked at. I hope i have not broken any rules by given info. on this site It has helped me and thought it might help all travelers out their. In NM at present.
