News networks are reporting about a hospital evacuation out there. Apparently there were actual fires on the campus. We are thinking about you out there and worrying about you.

It is my understanding that many families were coming to the hospital and transporting their loved ones to other hospitals on their own. There were not enough ambulances and everything was chaotic. Most people were just getting up out of bed and leaving. An ambulance arrived at another hospital with several itty bitties with one nurse each. Very stressful for all concerned. Was watching the news last night. They showed how close the flames were getting to the hospital and nothing was mentioned that evacuations had already started. One man said that when he left, a parking structure was on fire. Goes to show you that hospital employees should take disaster drills seriously. I know what my client teaching is going to be about when I go to work today.

I work at a hospital fairly close to these fires and all night we were preparing to receive patients from Olive View... I'm not sure if we ever did or if they all went to Holy Cross. I know they have so far only evacuated some ICU and NICU patients, and a lot of patients left AMA.
We had no communication with Olive View for several hours because fires near a power plant in the area caused electricity to go out, and then the hospital's backup generators went out. I am crossing my fingers for Olive View staff... I'm going back in to work tonight so we'll see then if we get any patients from them.
We had a couple elderly/disabled people who had been transported to us via ambulance who were simply laying on stretchers in hallways to keep them out of the endangered areas. And one of the ED techs was afraid to sleep in his own home due to the proximity of the fire, so he came and slept in our fast track! I can see the smoke from my apartment, but it's not close enough to be threatening. Good luck to all those who are in danger!!
