Just finished the MSN/Informatics

I think I'm the first graduate, from what they tell me. Ask away if you have questions! ?

Thanks!! It can be interesting being the first person through, but hopefully I wrote up enough tickets to help out those that follow behind. ?

WOW! Congratulations!! I do have a couple questions, but I'm interested in the Leadership options. Some would pertain to your MSN as well.

1. How quickly can you complete an MSN at WGU? Is 6 months unreasonable?

2. Were any of your exams done with a webcam / in person at a testing center, or was all testing through papers, projects, etc?

3. Is it true that the highest GPA would be a 3.0?

Thanks so much!! And congratulations again!!

Keep in mind this is my third WGU degree so I tend to go a little more quickly. I did the MSN in Informatics in two months total (from BSN). I have seen many people go through the MSN in one term, but it is not necessarily the norm so plan for at least two terms especially if you haven't been to WGU before. I'd join the facebook groups- they are a ton of help if it's 2AM, you are working on a paper, and can't understand something.

The MSN in informatics has three exams, I think the other two tracks have two but don't quote me on that. They are done with the webcam that WGU sends you. Everything else is a paper/powerpoint/video.

And yes, as with all WGU degrees, the grades are pass/fail which is the 'equivalent' of a 3.0.

FeatherzRN, thanks for all the info. You've been most helpful! :)

How long did it take you to do the RN to BSN with WGU? What was the hardest class of the BSN track? What was the hardest class of the MSN informatics track? Thank you.

The RN to BSN took me 3.5 months. I don't remember which class was the hardest then (that was 2013), but now it seems to be the biochem class. ;)

As for the MSN/Informatics, the data analysis/stats class was probably the most difficult, although it wasn't too bad.

Wow, congrats!!

So I have zero experience in informatics or anything related. I've just been a floor nurse for a few years but I am very interested in informatics. Would this be a problem?

There is no requirement that you be currently working in informatics - so, no! ? Make sure that's where your interest lies, however - I am *guessing* it's a less versatile MSN specialty than education or leadership.

I'm considering the MSN informatics or the MBA... just not sure. I have a BSN, currently work in a PACU. Trying to figure out my long term goals! Any advice?

I have both the MSN and the MBA. The MBA was more of a bucket list item as I have no intention of being a manager - but I think it all depends on what you want to do. I currently work in health information, so the informatics degree was perfect for me. Would you want to work in informatics?
